Smile Just came back from Exam center. Doc4step1 Exam experience. Read on!

Ok guys, finally I am able to write my own exam experience....Regardless of How I did, I owe this to this forum and all you helping souls.

So I reached there at 7:30 AM. Exam was at 8:30. The people in the center were more than nice and helpful. The lady asked me if I want to start early and What else could I ask for ...I started at 8.

Did 2 blocks straight...felt them easy.
took 10 minutes break. Ate a bit, drank some juice, and took a benzo. (I have anxiety, Palpitations, Skipping beats).
Went to 3rd block. Found a few questions tough. I mean when you don't know the answer to anything, its tough...For many it would be a piece of cake.
Even I took benzo, my heart was beating out of my chest, and skipping beats like I thought it will stop any moment.

So was forced to take another 10 minutes break. Took another benzo. drank some water and Gatorade.

Went back to 4th and 5th blocks...Not bad. Had some WTF questions. But not as hard as 3.

After 5th block I went for another break...This time 15 minutes or so. Ate half sandwich. drank water. Another 1.25 mg Benzo...Dude I have adapted tolerance to this $hit now. I forgot beta blockers at home, which I regret, cos usually one 25mg Atenolol keeps me going whole day.

After this break I went for the 6th block...Though again. Questions which u think have at least 2 right answers.

Anyway after 6th block I wanted to finish this. Just took a break but stayed at the desk...Relaxed a bit. Was getting excited that one more block and I am done. Who care I pass or Fail. At least I will not be reading FA tonight.

The 7th block was easy.

The exam was done and my heart felt like I had never had any anxiety ever ,never have i had any palpitation...Bloody cheater heart. lolz

Summary...The exam is DOABLE...I don't know if I will even pass, But for those who work hard and has a bit of basic knowledge can pass this exam any day.

50 % questions are straight forward...Only a few have tricks but if you know the concept, You will catch it...Never think they wanna fool You.... if you think thats the answer, It is the answer.

2 of my last NBMEs were risky passing marks. My UW SA 1 was 214 and UW SA 2 was 232.

I am sharing all this with you not bcos I think I will pass or I will score this much and that much...Its just to tell you that don't listen to those who think this exam is difficult and stuff.

I had some anatomy questions which I had no clue about, had to guess and move on.
Histology , very few questions.
Physio...Tested by those stupid up and down arrows...I hate them.
I had at least 3 questions from BS (Behavioral science that is ,,lolz). But were straight forward. A couple were just really BS...( this time not behavioral science. lolz).
Pharma was straight forward...Gives u a drug, want to know the mechanism, Resistance...Or just Side effect.
Patho...Lots of questions.
Biochem...I hate it and thank God , had very few from it.

Did I miss anything...Well I am sure I did...Ask me if you have any questions.

Oh I forgot to tell you. If you don't take any NBME online at least review them offline...I had at least 4 or 5 questions straight from NBMEs. Don't remember which one though.

Also I found 2 questions which were repeated in one or the other blocks...

Time for me to relax s bit.

saying again...DONT Know If I will pass or fail....But Hey I TRIED, Didn't I?

I would say If you read Kaplan and then do UWorld questions...After that FA should be good...Cos Trust me I found Pharma questions very straight forward.Except for a few pharmakokinetic stupid curves questions.

I wanna add one thing here which I miss on the main post,

Micro questions are easy like hell...They give you more than enough clues and without reading the answers you know what organism it is.I am not saying all of them, but 80% of them.

so for pharm they give the drug name in the question or we have to find the drug used and know side effects etc.

How about anatomy was FA more than enough ?

Is FA enough for Micro ?

Some questions they tell u about the drug, and then ask you about the mechanism
Some they tell you a disease and its treatment, doesn't tell you the drug but just side effects and ask u what drug caused it.

I also have a question on C450 inhibitor...was very easy.

Every exam is different but for my exam FA was enough for micro. They are crazy about E.Coli, Pseudomonas, Staph aureus.lolz

For anatomy I would say , I have a few questions which were not in FA, neither did I find them in UWorld.
They love Radial nerve , axillary never injury and rotator cuff injurey.

And yeah What would be damaged during ligation of uterine artery...Had this questions twice in 2 different blocks.

But some I don't remember which I had never faced before.

First of all thanks.
Yes there was one question regarding that equation...It was so weired and I didn't want to spend too much time on it , cos It was in the middle of the block and I knew more easier question will come. Why miss those. So I just guessed and moved on.

It was a year long journey...But today I feel like I never read a book.lolz. There were days, When I cried.( really cried in bathroom). There were days, I almost burnt my books. There were days when I said, frick it, I will find a job as a teacher.

But remember there were also days when I thought I can take this exam, regardless of the result. At least I can tell my kids that I had tried, if they ask in the future.

There were days when My wife didn't talk to me for days ,cos I didn't have time for them.
There were days when I took a long walk ,crying and looking up, asking for help.

Trust me I am so happy today...Not because I will Pass...Beacuase I TRIED something Which I had never thought I will be ever able to do.

Play with cell phone, Facebook and everything u like, But have a small area in your brain and fit there a sign saying "I AM GONNA TRY THIS EXAM, REGARDLESS OF WHAT HAPPENS." And read that sign every morning you open your eyes and every night You close them.

One thing I learned...People damn care, Don't live your life thinking what people will say if You fail...Think what You will feel when You will pass.

And just in case You fail.In the end its the knowledge you gain is what matters.

Good Luck.

lol....At one time, It almost did...But had to go and wash my face with cold water all the times.

I would do 13, 12, and 15.
I had done 15, and I had one question straight from it.
One or 2 probably from 12.
and one from 13.

But review them all...cos Questions are like NBMEs...Much much easier than the way they ask on UWorld.

But if You do UWorld , You find questions on real exam much easier.

Let me give u an example. They gave me a history of a patient with history of athma and then 5 drugs, and asked which one is contraindicated in this patient. The answer was shining like sun...lol ...cos the other 4 drugs were actually the treatment of Asthma.

So What I am saying is that the exam is very straight forward. If You have the knowledge.

I didn't see anything on the exam which I had never heard of ,or nevr seen before, Except for a few WTF questions.

Thanks.
I think I had a question on McArdle's disease...Folic acid.Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12.One of the lysosomal disease.etc.
Biostats, One was specificity, one was relative risk, Probabilty. etc.But they give u the table , so that makes it very easy.

Neuroanatomy , Give you those cross section of the brain and then give u presentation and ask you where is the lesion ,type of question.I think I had one on Aphasia, One on Hippocampus, Occulomotor nerve leasion.etc.
