Question Dandy-Walker Malformation Teratogenesis!

11 month old girl with delayed development and mental retardation develops seizures and signs of brianstem dysfunction. Dandy - Walker malformation is identified by MRI. Maternal exposure to which of the following during pregnancy is considered a risk factor for Dandy - Walker malformation?


A. ACE inhibitor
B. Propanolol

dandy walker malformation:congenital brain malformation involving the cerebellum and fluid filed spaces around it..absence of corpus calosum, bundle of axons connecting the two cerebral hemisphere, malformation of heart,face and extremities

Several factors*come in Dandy-Walker syndrome as causes of the malformations being:
-rubella*infection during*pregnancy
-alcohol consumption*of the mother during pregnancy
-different rare genetic disorders caused by changes of*genes*are triggered as Joubert syndrome, Meckel-Gruber syndrome, Ehlers-Danos syndrome

Correct Answer Correct answer is E.

Warfarin is risk factor for sporadic Dandy - Walker syndrome. Other risk factor include retinoic acid.
