First just want to say that i still have to take the step

NBMEs r for assessment, so i think best time is to take ot when you think u r ready or want to see if your ready for exam. It also depends on ur finds, how many r u willing to take?
I've heard that people start taking NBMEs 2 months from their test day and take one every week from there..

There is also the free questions on the usmle page i believe. You can look that up too.

Since u said ur reading KLN, if you can, there is the diagnostic test from KAPLAN.. And UWorld has 2 assessments too..

Good luck

Everyone has a different opinion on this.

I think you should take the first nmbe after you have finished one read of Kaplan and done 1000 questions from a qbank and started reading FA.

And then you can do second nbme after completing uworld and FA

Third assessment after revising FA and completing second round of Uworld.

But it is better to start doing NBME sooner rather than later so that you know whether you are making progress or not.

All the best!
