Question Is a SECOND read of Kaplan very essential?

I'm doing Kaplan for only Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, and then Anatomy at the end, and then Behavioral.

But I'm going over it quite slowly, and actively. And then I plan to do USMEWORLD qbank, then a few assesement tests to see where I'm at. And then finally take the Exam!

If anything, I might do a 'second browse'. But not sure if a Second Read would help!? But it seems that its pretty much a routine that everyone here seems to follow! Is it really necessary? How much does it help you retain?

thanks sabio. from that thread, seems like 'second read' mean without the videos, which seems MUCH MUCH more realstic. that i think i can do, and i imagine a second read would go much much faster. i'm really taking it slow on my first read. already wasted too much time on useless low yield sources. enough now! only concentrating on the high yield! thanks!

Ok. I was very surprised to see the Kaplan poll with most people recommending 3 reads of Kaplan!

I am an old img (2006) and just gave step 1 an got 243.
I read Kaplan only once, did uworld twice and did FA thrice.

The only scenario in which I would recommend a second read of Kaplan is if you are not planning to use FA as your final revision aid. (or maybe if you have a score target of 245+) . Or if you have a lot of time maybe. It is good but it is not the most efficient use of time.

Otherwise it is best to do Kaplan once and focus on your final revision aid ie FA.

But then again. Do what works for you.
All the best!!

You should go for a second browse of pictures, plots and diagrams. Specially Kaplan's physiology, biochemistry and anatomy.
Have the metabolic pathways at hand to come back to them as reviewing UWorld. I had to post-it them all.

If you can get them, High Yield's Neuroanatomy, Anatomy and Embryology pictures and radiology images can be quickly reviewed, will be in your memory for a longer term, your eyes will rest from reading so many tiny little words, and will be very likely to appear on your exam. Images. Text could be too much for step 1, at least in my experience.
Quick glance and recall.

I had a little too much questions that went like this:
-- -- -- Clinical vignette -- -- --
-- Loooong list of lab results -- more time consuming than pertinent
-- -- -- Question proper -- -- - -

In the end you need the integration skills the QBanks can give you, I wish I started UWorld earlier but the mental blueprint of the books is necessary.
