Exam-Results Got my result 228 !

Finally my wait is over & the light that was at the end of that tunnel was not a train as I thought , lol .

I'm sharing my experience for just one reason,to show that step 1 is actually overrated & can be done but you only need to know how .

a little bit about myself first ,2010 US-IMG graduated from a med school in Egypt, took my step 2 ck during my internship in 2011 & got 212.
taking step 2 first was a really bad idea & my exam was delayed 3 times & that really hurt me but who would care about excuses what matters is the score after all.

after finishing my internship by the end of 2011 I came back to the U.S. & tried to start Step 1 right away but due to money & work issues I couldn't & ended up starting in July 2011.

I started the same way I did step 2 , watched kaplan videos along with kaplan notes ,but half way through it I realized if I keep doing it that way I'll never finish,& since I had a deadline which was April to take the test I decided to change the strategy.

I put all kaplan books aside & started FA ( Finished pathology-anatomy-some micro-some bio -don't remember what else from kaplan ) then I decided I'll go chapter by chapter from FA along with that chapter's questions in online Kaplan qbank ,so I read the chapter from FA & whatever I didn't understand , I would go back to kaplan books & videos to try to get a better explanation for it & after I did ,I'd move back to FA & finish the rest, after doing so , I solved the questions in kaplan qbank (system-untimed) & wrote down notes of the question I got wrong & the ones that I had doubt in.

Finished FA & KAPLAN Qbank in about 2 months with total average score of 57% & ended up with 265 pages of hand-written notes that I though they would be handy in revision.

after finishing that I decided to read FA one more time & read my notes also before starting UW,but it was BORING as hell & I couldn't do it , so I started UW anyway & that was in February.

I've started off with a block or 2 \ day & man I was shocked,my starting scores per block ( timed-random ) were in the lower 50s & since I was taking the test no matter what I became so nervous that after 4 blocks in UW I decided to try UWSA 1 to get an idea about my situation , so I did it & got 224, so I got a little cocky & decided to give NBME a shot,so I took NBME 15 & 204 was there wake me up.but I thought that was a good start since I haven't done UW yet.

anyway,I continued doing UW blocks & my scores improved , they ranged from upper 50s to lower 70s with most of the blocks in the upper 60s,with one problem , I was trying to solve 2 blocks\day & write the notes to be able to finish UW in a month but writing those notes took a long long time & I had to extend my subscription a couple of times & the total time it took me to finish the whole thing was close to 2 months , to be specific , 4 days before my test day .

with things not going as planned & no time to revise whatsoever & not having the luxury to postpone the test or to read at least the 560 pages that I wrote,I got so depressed that I couldn't read anything for 2 days.

2 days before the test ,I snapped out of it & started reading as much as I could but how much can you read in 2 days , so I decided to do UWSA 2 , 2 days before the test which was a risky risky move , because if I scored low, that would really shake my confidence & would hurt my performance in the test, but thank God I got 247 which lifted my spirit up a little bit.

Felt bad though cause I could've done better & all I needed was just one quick read but what are you gonna do ?!! also I wanted to take NBME 7 but it was too late for that.

Went for the test & was not nervous at all ,don't really know why, may be I was happy it was gonna be over, anyway to sum up the test experience , the test was hard , a lot of genetics , molecular biology & graphs .
they say there are some experimental questions but I felt that most of the questions were experimental ,but to be honest some straight forward questions were there , I guess ( either that or I got them wrong ).
the test was long & felt like guessing most of the question but I guess it's a normal feeling.

finished the test not sure what happened there but all I knew that it was over ........ 3 weeks later 228 ( al hamd le Allah ),satisfied with my score but still beating myself up on the fact that I could've done better with just one more read.

the last thing to mention is that during the whole process I was working a full time job 10 hours\day , 7 days\week until the last day of my preparation & with those unfavorable circumstances I though I didn't have a chance in hell.

Good luck guys,it's doable & the key is SOLVING AS MANY QUESTIONS AS POSSIBLE.

first of all many congratulations!
i took my exam on 30th april.
and i also experienced exactly the same. all the questions were too experimental and lots of graphs, molecular , murmur , endocrine , immuno.
i was not feeling very acquainted with all those..
i took nbme 7 and 11, they were very much easierrr (i felt).
but real exam was horrible for me
i dont know what should i expect from such an exam?????????????

A very good score while working a full time job. I have a 150 hour/month job and I hope I get such a good score as you. And you even have STEP 2 complete! Congratulations, you are almost there!

Thank you all,I actually brought that up for one reason, not bragging or anything, just to let whoever is still preparing for step 1 know that if I could do it with those circumstances that means it can be done easily if someone's studying full time, plus I was living alone, preparing food, doing laundry & everything else.
So good luck y'all it's tough but doable.

honestly I'm not the best one to answer that question, pharma to me was unstudyable (if that's even a word) but I used FA,found it ok although deficient in a lot of things ,watched some kap videos & actually used kap notes just to understand some vague concepts, youtube was of a little help , but what helped me the most was Kap qbank & uw.
good luck

Thanks
I didn't have a specific schedule , even if I did I never stick to any schedule ,there's always something that messes it up. I was studying whenever I got a chance ,but most of the days were like this :
I get up at 9am , be at work at 10am ( I was working in ad office where we buy & sell gold , something like a jeweler ) , drink my coffee first thing cause without it I don't function.
then I study as much as I can whenever I don't have customers , some days I was able to do 6 hours in total & some days I didn't have time to even breath.
I got off at 8pm , towards the end of my prep I used to lock the store up & stay inside from 8pm to 12am or so & I used to mainly solve Qbank.
sometimes I went home & stayed up till 4am but that usually screwed up the following day.
I remember the last month of my prep we were so fu*k'n busy at work & because I was up to my neck with studying I was so rude to customers & had a couple of arguments cause they felt like I was trying to get rid of them ( which was true ) but I ended up losing too much time at work so I had to to make up for it at night at home which off course affected my mood , my stamina the following day & it was a vicious circle from there.
that's all I guess.
any other question plz don't hesitate.

Oh yea kinda weirdly written. I meant the scheduling permit on the ecfmg account. I've heard it disappears a couple days before you get your score on that Wednesday..?
