Help Need Motivation

i failed step 1 and now i'm in the process of taking it again. it's so hard to keep myself motivated. I'm afraid to take the exam again because of failing. I don't even know if I'll get into residency. If I don't pass this exam, I wont be able to apply for the 2014 match. I would be out of med school for 4 years. That's not good, huh?? I'm getting pressured by my support system. My parents told me if I don't pass then it's time to think of other options like doing research and getting a job. Does anyone have a similar situation? How do you keep going? It's so hard.

hey.i obviously cant understand how hard it is in your position.i have been studying for my step 1 for a very long time as well.i havnt given it yet.but lets just say its a very dark place right now.but i guess so many before us have been here and have gotten through it so i dont see why we cant.so dont lose faith and keep trying.it takes longer for some of us but weel get there as long as we believe (thats what ive been told atleast).best of luck.

Hard truth: [I am sorry, I know you want motivation but, I just cant lie]
Reality is that you need to get a JOB and research.
I am sorry my friend.
failure in step 1 is very bad.

You have many red flags
YOG, Step failure, maybe even again.
Probably your STEP 2 CK is not great either.
most likely you have no USCE or if you do and went to some low tier carib school.

There is only hope for you if:
you pass with superb mark, ace/250+ CK and ace step 3.

get a MPH, research or assistant job you will match if you are a US-citizen.

if not.

I am sorry. is better to get a job and marry a doctor from home country get him/her become a doctor and live in the shadows of them until they bring you in.

but right now, you are in a very bad situation. try to pass step 1 with 250+ and step 2 CK with 250. get research. get USCE. ace step 3

you will need to do better than just passing step 1, you will need a high score to make up for the weaker application. you may want to consider a backup plan if you do not do well on the step 1.

Thank you vita86 for those inspiring words. I'm so happy to join this forum because people are so helpful and nice here. I really appreciate everyone who helps out. It is nice to know that I'm not alone.

At this point, I know my basics in medicine are not that strong. I'm from the states but went to the Philippines for medical school. I came back and took Kaplan but got distracted by a really bad breakup. I really regret letting that affect my studies. I failed Step 1 by 6 points. I got a 182. I decided to take Step 2 CS and passed. Tried to get back to studying for Step 1, but was so depressed that I was taking my precious time studying. A friend suggested DIT. I did that. Saw a minimum improvement in my scores. I did UWORLD questions. I even made notes. I have a binder full of notes. I read FA. In Jan 2013, I took an 8 day review with Northwestern Review. It seemed to help. I did an NBME and got a 189. After a few weeks, I did another NBME but got 182. I've been just reading FA and doing UWorld questions. What else should I do? Anything would help. I'm so depressed now. I'm getting really tired and really losing the motivation. I'm starting to think of other options. Maybe my brain is fried.

many of my classmates have poor motivation and they end up performing poorly, some even drop out due to very poor performance. if you can't motivate yourself to become a doctor, then this isn't the field for you. you can still be happy and successful in your life finding something that motivates you.
