Help 260 to 270 required. Advice?

Hello. I am an IMG and I have recently graduated from Pakistan (january 2013)". Howerver on my degree , year of graduation is 2011. Will I be counted as a 2011 graduate or a 2013 graduated because i passed in january 2013.

Other question. I want a super high score on step 1 . I am ready to work as much as is required but i want some advice from experienced ones. How much do i need to study if i want that high of a score. how many times do i do kaplan and FA and Uworld plus goljan. i already completed once bdw except Uworld).
How quickly I should revise?

do an NBME right now, if you get 240+ you can get 270. I will tell you how.

if not, than 30+ is the maximum you can get, if no one has ever studied for STEP 1 and starting now.

Default not sure about the 30+

I think any one can score 250 .... but the real thing is in 5-6 months or 9-10 months ....... the deciding factor is starting uworld atleast 2 months before ur exam .... just my humble opinion

I agree, with only 2 months left, you need to take an NBME right now and see if you can get 240+. If not, then 270 is not happening.

I have more than an year. I have almost completed kaplan once and goljan is about to be completed in next 10 days. i am planning to revise kaplan atleast 3 more times and then memorise FA once and then read atleast 5 times and then only i will start MCQs and it for 3 months and will do NBME at the End to see if I Am ready. Then i will take the real exam. You think still 30 is the maximum improvement I can do?

Well I think u can improve with time but your duration looks too far! Why 1 year time? The deciding factor would be ur study strategy that works best for you. I mean you are using the right resource but what is left is how you would recall and apply those info. So bottom line take nbme if u get less than 240 u still have good chances to ace the exams > 250. But it depends on u. Whatever nbme result u get just know ur weak areas and zoom in. Good luck.

You can give USMLE just once. it should better be later than a low score. thats what i learnt from several people. score matters much more than other things. provided that my graduation year is counted as 2013, i think its okay to prepare for match 2015 with a super duper score rather than a a low score in 2013 or 2014. i have not done NBME but other quizzes that I have in my ipad give me a 55% result usually and make me feel that i need more knowledge.

Default NBEM

Does not matter how many times you will read FA. I did ones. You should do NBEM and then you will know where you are. If you are 240, you can improve to 265, but remember, during exam your predicted score for the last NBEM also decreased about 10 points.

so what does it depend on? i have heard that 80% of mcqs are from the first aid so how comes it does not depend? what should you do if you want score?

Sure, but 80% only gets you a 220. The latest NBME seems closer to 70% answerable from FA. You want to aim for 92-95% correct.

The key is to do 10,000 practice questions, and be good at correctly answering bad questions (ie. How does a diabetic patient with peripheral neuropathy feel when you prick their foot with a pin?).

260 means more than 90% correct?

I'm getting around 88% on last two NBME's and that's 240s. 260 is probably close to 95%.

The most important resources I used were UWorld, Kaplan videos, USMLE Secrets book, and Pathoma videos.

There's many others I used but those were less important (DIT lectures, Goljan audio, Goljan Rapid Review Pathology (for its pictures), Robbins Pathology, First Aid 2013, other Qbanks, Lippincott Biochemistry, Microbiology flash cards, attending medical school, etc.)

260 is definitely possible if you work hard and have a good study strategy. You gotta be honest with yourself if you are weak on particular (or all) subjects, and work on them. Getting an average score of 220 is a lot harder than most people think.

Why do u want to spend more time reading both pathoma and Goljan?
Both books have been rated A+ in FA 2013 so any one of them is good. Infact pathoma has been rated better by recent test takers. Almost 95% of patho and pathophys questions could be answered with pathoma. So I am using pathoma and if hv time would add Goljan audios just to hear how he links organ system and subjects.

the thing is, i have already done alot of goljan. so i think it would be very unwise to leave a book that you have done mostly. i alos have listen to most of the audios from it. so i think pathoma should not be too difficult for me. i will do only its videos perhaps. i prefer video or audio because i learn quick from lectures and i remember them for longer time.
