Hi there, i would really appreciate if anyone can help me out here. So overwhelmed.
I'm a caribbean medical student, I've taken a year off after 2nd year to study for step 1 before starting clinical rotations. I got a 210/153 on nbme 12 in December and managed to bring it up to a 440/207 on nbme 13 on April 6th. Now exactly 1 month later i took nbme 15 and got a 350/186. I'm absolutely devastated. My exam is booked for for first week of June and i am so burnt out i don't want push it back any longer. I've been studying for over a year. I've been searching online but there's very little information about nbme 15. I assume the most recent one is the most predictive of our actual step. I really do not want to push this exam back, but im worried about even getting a spot for residency at all with such low scores. I was hoping for family medicine in rural parts of USA but even now that seems out of reach. (btw I'm a Canadian citizen.. No green card). I would really appreciate any advice anyone has to offer. Thank you!! Also if i don't write this within the next month i will have to wait til 2016 to apply for residency due to my 72 weeks clinical rotations that i still have yet to complete, as well as my step 2 ck and cs.
They say that NBME 7 is most predictive, despite NBME 15 bieng the most recent. I would take NBME 7. If you get a low score then I would pospone, remember that STEP1 is only taken once, and you need those high scores. I can see why you dont want to pospone it, but see it this way: If there was a family emergency or a certain situation in which it would make it difficult for you to take STEP1, would you pospone it? I think you would (I would)
If you do NBME 7 and get a good score, then I would suggest to go for the exam once and for all and get it behind you.
i agree with medpack here...its a once in a lifetime deal really, you dont want to screw it up. so at this point, dont waste precious time and energy fretting over the possibilities...just be calm and take any nbme that you havent before, and yeah dont cheat (d-uh), this is to help you assess yourself, you got nothing to prove to anyone. and yes, atleast a couple of nbmes and the avg of that would be worth your time. so for now, just let the nbme decide for you whether of not you should postpone.
i'm actually kinda talking to myself too here, cuz i am sort of in the same boat. my test is dangerously close now, and i have the same big question in my head all the time...to go for it or not. so i just told you what i am doing...focusing on the best prep i can manage at this time and then take an nbme to decide.
Thank you for your reply!! I have done nbme 7 a month an a half ago but didn't mention that above because i had my first aid open here an there during the exam. I got a 203 then. I know it was a stupid choice to cheat on an nbme.. Now what I'm thinking of doing is DIT for two weeks and then doing nbme 11? And then practice test at prometric centre a week later and the real test a week after that. I'm worried that ok let's say i break a 200 on the real exam and work really hard and get a 235 on ck step 2 would i have a good chance at family med rural residency still? Or
Do i just give up the dream now? I'm so confused and isn't it going to be a huge deal to program directors that i studied for a whole year and barely broke a 200?

Have you tried Firecracker or Picmonic? Can i ask what school? Did you feel basic sciences were weak?
