Default Step 2 CK before Step 1

Hi everyone, this is my first ever post on this site. I would like to everyone a question and would like everyone to put in their views so that it will be of help to others as well.

Is it advisable to appear for step 2 cK exam first and later appear for Step 1. Considering the fact that someone is in final year of his studies and all the subjects you study are similar to step 2 ck. And later after graduation, you appear for step 1.

Thank you everyone

Debatable but most of us take 1 before ck. we form basis in 1 and build it up in ck. most believe it that way

I know the importance of taking Step 1 first. But lets debate it a little. After graduation if you get into doing job and residency program in your home country, this wouldnt give you much time to study for Step exam. It would delay the process further and further. In that case, will it better to atleast get done with one step.

i totally understand what u mean and i was in the same boat as u. it took a lot of debate and judgement for me before i decided that i want to study for step 1 prior to ck. even if u get done with ck during and after ur internship period (if ur doing housejob) u are going to have to deal with a huge step later on => step 1..not to mention that u need to spend more time on this because its the main score they look at for ur matching. also, if u try studying for step 1 ull see that its so clinically based for eg patho covers quite a lot of medicine related things that when u study all of that during ur prep for step 1 u wont have any problem in building concepts during ck..u wud already know it.

furthermore, step 1 requires a foundation of knowledge before u can go on to attempt dx and management, and step 1 builds that for u.

all in all, people HAVE given step 2 before step 1 and it really depends on how well u did in ur basic sciences. if u think u can do well then go for it but keep in mind that later on, ur gonna have to deal with step 1 which is very lengthy.
