Don't hesitate on doing NBMEs , they will give you your mark in a significant manner and the awesome thing about it, no one knows that mark except you

Yeah about Path I was thinking of reading it from Goljan Rapid Review " although there a lot of pages but the guy review everything not just path"

Hey... i study mostly 10-12 hours.

i typically do different portions of 2-3 subjects daily so that i dont get bored to one subject the whole day.

doing more than 1 subject helps you in many ways.
you wont feel monotonous.

Plus, dont leave gaps between revisions of same subject.

Like,
Day 1 - subject A, B
day 2- subject c,d
day 3 A D
day 4 B C

like this....
i mean , do not plan your subjects in such a way that the gap of revision of one subject goes more than 4-5 days... Keep revising again and again every 2- 3 days.. it'll help you a lot.. this will keep the 'Things' fresh in your mind. You wont forget the content , hopefully..

i am studying this way... it's helping me a lot...
plus,, During UWORLD, i have made handwritten notes of the difficult question-answers.. i revise it every other day so that it fits into my mind like a rock..!!!
That's it...

And what are the receptors ?

2- Cortisol and T3 through a1 and b1 receptors

3- Cortisol and Epi thorugh b1 and a1 receptors

4- T3 and Epi through b1 and b2 receptors

2- Cortisol and T3 through a1 and b1 receptors

Is the answer ( the key word was upregulation)

Cortisol maintain Blood pressure through UPREGULATION of a1 receptors ( remember cortisol is BBIIG --> Blood pressure, Bone resorbtion, anti Inflammatory, Insulin resistance and Glucneogenesis

T3 maintain CO( HR SV and contractility) through UPREGULATION of b1 receptor along with the 4 Bs ( Brain maturation, Bone growth, B1 receptors, Basal metabolic rate )

why not epinephrin and dopamine..,
dopa through d1 receptor can cause reflex tachycardia and epinephrin through b1 receptor increase heart rate

Correct Answer

D - Photosensitivity

The disease is Lymes, and the Rx of choice would be Doxycycline, which causes photosensitivity (it may also cause discoloration of teeth, but in children)

I just finished doing a 30 questions of phys and anatomy on Uworld and I noticed something

At first my answers were good and correct (with time tutored mode) then after 30 minutes my incorrect answers started to increase progressively (along with my frustration ) and I noticed with that a drop of my concentration in reading the questions and looking at the question at point of view different from what supposed to be

In the real exam how would you know that

Happens to all of us at some point.... I usually get back on track by starting easy revisions so i dont miss out important stuff... Also i take long breaks when my mind is saturated ... When you get back to study ur mind is fresh after the break.. Just tell yourself a few more months and your done with the worst part.....

ya that happens to me too... too often i fear.. i just feel like throwing away the books and watching some serial or movie all day long.... usually watching a movie or talking to a friend (like chit chat.. no study related stuff) helps... and if i still feel dull, i just take a break sometimes even two days... and i feel better.... though i am glad to know i'm not the only one with this problem
so its normal... js revise simple stuff to get your confidence... or go to youtube and watch a video- 'how bad do you want it' - fires me up every time

UW is so exhausting, that's why I did not do all subjects at same time
I mean I studied physio then I did UW for it then I studied anatomy then I did UW for them and so on

I think nobody can make more than 100 questions per day

I think a person should do only the first ten exams as timed to get used to time then do the rest in tutor mode that will save alot of days

do not get frustrated if u get low grades that is totally normal

in some tests i got 39 42 and somethings like that it is totally normal

UW is very difficult

Alkylating agents are not m phase specific so the answer is vinca alkaloids ... Vincristine is the alkaloid that doesnt supress bone marrow... Bleomycin and cisplatin also dont suppress bm but act on diffrent stages

Me too I'm kind of freaking out,

I still didn't started Path, Immun, and Behavioral science

And my marks in Uworld still below average ...

I don't know; are you on the same level or better than me ??

Now I'm doing questions daily to improve my grades

and at the same time I take about 3 or 4 hrs reviewing previous questions

I try to do questions on each subjects that I'm done with already

and I don't leave gaps of 3 or 4 days for a particular subject

that's kind of helping but at the same time my study plan for the reminder subjects that I didn't finish yet is getting slower

I don't know if I'm doing good with that plan or not !!!

The best source for signal transduction is High yeild cellular and molecular biology

it really helped me through in understanding tyrosine kinase receptors and PLC pathway

is that what you looking for ? the receptors and how dose they work ?

I have read the following book.

Kaplan Medical USMLE Medical Ethics: The 100 Cases You are Most Likely to See on the Exam

it has immensely helped me solving questions on ETHICS in U world.
more than 90% of the quesitons on Ethics are covered in this book.
I recommend it for all those who are not done with Ethics portion yet..
if any one needs it in PDF, tell me.... i'll post the link.
Hi!

Do you know how's the book "Khan's Cases: Medical Ethics"?

I've been hearing it's better than Conrad. Do share if you have the book.

Thanks.

Hello folks!

I'm a 2012 graduate, been preparing past 6 months. I'm kinda not consistent. A few days I study 12 hours a day and few days just 4 hours.

BTW, I've completed first read of Kaplan (including all videos) and first read of FA. Currently doing 2nd read of Kaplan (because I keep forgetting concepts) and FA. Did 40% UWorld.

Did Goljan once. Doing Pathoma and Gojan 2nd time now.

Hoping to take the exam by August.

hi guys a qs-
a boy is found to have prolonged bleeding after tooth extraction. his parents don't have any bleeding disorders. he is found to have a inherited disorder and one of his parents a carrier. the elder sister who doesnt have the disease is pregnant(sex not known) and wants to know the probablity of her child having the disease.
1) 1/2
2) 1/4

Its c) 1/8...
Its x linked R ds so chances of sister being a carrier 1/2 , chances of child being a male 1/2 , chances of male getting the x chromosome again 1/2 so 1/8

Hotel Madhukunj Falcon nest
It's a service apartment. Not a hotel.
Good one though. Not been there. Heard good reviews from a friend. 1600 per night.

Hi guys

I can use a little bit of advise or an opinion right now

lately I have been noticing that my marks are not getting better as I expected

my marks on Uworld are from 50s - 60s I still have path, micro and behavioral science left

and I have only 50 days left for my exam

and I have been thinking of extending my eligibility period and rescheduling so I can improve my marks

should I go with that, or the 50 days will be enough to finish the reminder subjects and improve my marks ?

I'm aiming at >250 score

I think its 4.Calcium channel blocker.Nimodipine is use basically.it is cerebro-protective and reduces the future neurological deficit after SAH.

there is also a high yeild book for biostatistics, it is different from the behavioural book

I will read high yeild for biostat, high yeild for behavioural and ethics by cornard ficher i think this is the magic way for studying those subjects

Hey all, just stumbled upon this nice website today(I am not at all a net junkie) and thought it would be a nice idea to join you all in the preparations for step 1 and to keep myself motivated. A small intro about myself - I am an IMG from India graduated just 2 months back in April 2013. Started my preps for Step 1 in January this year with Kaplan Videos and notes. Then followed it with Rapid Review Goljan for Patho and listened to few of his audios too. Finally in May started doing UWorld online and started reading First Aid and sticking Uworld notes on the First Aid. I am done with 80% of UWorld with cumulative average of 69% till now. Have finished my FA first read also. Had done NBME5 in offline mode two weeks back and got just 132 questions correct. So had been a little stressed up lately. Planning to finish the remaining of Uworld asap and then give one online mock exam. Will be giving online NBME13 by next week. My exam is in 1st week of August. To be honest, I have been a very average student throughout my medical school years and realistically anything beyond 230 would be a great score for me. Although the more, the better. So slogging hard these days.

Am I on the right track? Any feedbacks on how to go from here on will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks!
hey u are doing really good!! and really good speed too... keep it up!!

Thanks Vinaya. Good luck to you too for your preps. I am trying real hard from my side but I am really not consistent with my study schedule. One day I will sit and study properly for 12 hours, next day I won't even sit for 2 hours in total. That's the problem. Have to buckle up and be a little more consistent now as its the final 30-40 days left now.

I am a little weak in Biochem and Microbio. What should I do to improve on them? Should I go through the kaplan notes again?

If youve done kaplan once properly do questions on these subject to reinforce that info.... You can revise important regulators and enzymes from FA a couple of times... For micro you have to memorise important stuff... Last few weeks prep left just focus on studying real hard.... good luck with the prep and exam

Thanks man for the advice. Wishing you too all the very best for your preps. I have done Kaplan once. Will have a look at all those cycles in the biochem Kaplan notes again as they are way too concise and a little confusing in the FA. Rest yes Micro is all about memorizing. I think FA is sufficient for Micro revision along with re-solving of Uworld questions.

Yes there are audio questions usually heart murmurs .... U can get those online for practice... About ekg cant really help you cause i did it using HAMPTON's ecg made easy during med school... And that has helped me a lot... So you can do that...

hi my friends

I want to ask you

how many times should someone read FA

of course everybody will read it for the first time

i am asking about the revisions

if someone read it once as a revision with great concentrations and he memorized every word, is that enough ?

Hello taher,
I heard from some of my friends who cleared step1 with good score that Every time you read FA, you will get something new and every lines form that book is important. It is really a good tool to revise all the subjects in a short period. My plan is to read 4-5 times.

Default Pleasr reply STEP 1 August exam!!

Hi everybody,

I am a relative newbie but ur forum has been really a great guide to me.
Can you please help:
1) Usmle world- Fully, done as learning tool-about 60% aggregate(increasing to about 80 pcent when i am reviewing them now)
2)Read Kaplan notes previously.Reviewing some part where needed.
3) FA annotated with Uworld revising.
4) reading smaller topics and weaker subjects namely anatomy and behavioural, immune
gave a nbme last month- 196..score.
5) for pathology-doing the lectures by Goljan and also Fa+uworld+ques from the usmleconsult free with Goljan RR. Also did pathoma but found it contained very less stuff.
Aim to reach 250 somehow.
QA)Should I extend my Uworld account by 15days and review all the Uworld ques incorrect and difficult ones??or buy a new qbank like kaplan or usmlerx or usmleconsult???
QB)how to go thru the enormous amount of pics in the test and what about the audio part??
I am trying hard. Can you please suggest me anything which will help at this time..I am panicking at the amount of syllabus left and the time I have at hand...????Can u tell me what should I be doing at this time??
Please, please do help!!!!!!!
Nbme came weak in gen principles, anat, biochem, and immune, behaviour and some topics in patho.

I would be very happy if anybody could help me.It would be appreciated...Thank you.

In Rheumatoid arthritis..There is a tissue inflammation so in that Vimentin is converted into the Citruline. This Citruline act as a antigen and there is a development of antibody against this.

Maybe it would be good if you do NBME's offline. Or just the ones you don't plan to do online

Thats a good idea but if you have time might as well do usmlerx.... They say its good for consolidating FA but i prefer uworld since some of thier questions are challenging.
