Great scores, good luck with your final result. I wonder how long have you been preparing for this exam?

That's great! I need your advice, Iam IMG graduated in 2008, started in January and did Kaplan books and Q bank, did first aid twice and now doing usmlerx. Today I scored 193 on form 13. So disappointed and confused what to do next to improve my score in 2 months! My exam will be on October! What do you think?

U still have 2 months.... You should finish usmlerx , take a self assessment .... There will definately be improvement .... If you still have time do uworld... I think uworld took my score from 242 to 261

Yes, I did NBME 13, last saturday, got 254 again, so no point in postponing. But I'm definitely disappointed because it didn't improve at all. But I have a small child...

Default NBMES needed

Guys I would really appreciate if some one could email me offline NBMEs 7,11,12,13 with answers, need them urgently!
I started NBME 11 and realized its questions weren't correlating with the answers perhaps the forms were incorrectly labeled. Please kindly send me the reliable forms and answers.

email : arsalsidd@gmail.com

Thankyou!

Guys, I'm done with my exam. A lot of tricky questions, a lot of neurology with slides, nothing from embriology, a lot of doctor-patient relations questions, biostatistics was one of my weakest areas always, a lot of microbiology, pharmacology was fair, but the most important subject is definitly pathology. There were two sounds, a lot of chest X-rays, not many pathology slides...
Feel free to ask anything you like

HY neuroanatomy is good enough.
I was watching Kaplan lectures from behavioral, read BRS Fadem once, but nothing similar was on the test. So I'm not quite sure what is the best literature from this subject.

Hey congrats.... I'm sure you will get a high score.... Was it like how aman j describes?? Like long qs stems ..... Lots of slides?? We're u able to answer without the slides?? Also how was anatomy?? And biochem?? Neurology was it like show autopsy slides and ask to label?? .... Getting tense with exams nearing... So many doubts... Quite scared....

Don't be scared!
Well about question stems' length- I remember thinking during exam that questions aren't too long. Like they were in NBME 15. My exam was more like UW.
On the other hand, there were a lot of slides. And the question was the slide itself, I couldn't answer without it. Know CNS anatomy well!
Anatomy was though, brachial plexus is a must, but there were some questions that weren't in FA or HY gross anatomy.
Biochemistry was fair. But I got a feeling that sometimes, they didn't want to use buzzwords, you know.
And again, you should definitely not be scared- give your maximum now and everything will be ok.

Default Similar experience

I took my exam on august 1st,I had quite a similar experience.A lot of neurology and doctor patient questions.I think a screwed up neuroanat a bit.The atlas in Hy anat in the starting chapters might be helpful.I had done it before but could not revise.
My NBME Scores-
NBME 15-254(17 WRONG)2 weeks from exam
NBME 13-254(16 WRONG)10 days from exam

hmm...waiting for the results

Like i said the atlas in the HY neuroanatomy would help for sure. The questions on ethics were pretty easy except for a couple of them.I did conrad fischer's 100 cases for ethics.

For biochemistry, mol biology and immunology the videos are so nice and explain from scratch. Don't worry the explain from A and Z. The lady explaining the immunology is funny and reaaaally makes everything easier.
For these subjects, I think that the videos are a must and will make FA to look like crap.

For physiology I did not hear the videos, but BRS is good.

For genetics, I started to read Kaplan but stopped after 4 chapters. I think that FA is enough.

I don't know about step 1, but Kaplan qbnak for step 2 is waste of time """in my opinion''''. It was full of low-yield non-tested material. I expect step 1 to be the same

Yes, it is over predictive. Take NBMEs to see where you stand

I don't know exactly what BS is ... if bio-statistics/behavioral science then if you have a good background then FA is more than enough, if not watch the videos. Anyone who did CK does not any source except FA.

Hi folks!

I'm an IMG from India. I've been preparing for Step 1 past 7 months. Already extended my eligibility period (Ends on 31st August). But, I need more few weeks more time to study. Planning to reapply for Step 1 by paying the fees again.

I have a valid Form 186 on file. Haven't received my diploma yet.

When I called ECFMG, I was told I could reapply only on September 15th and it would take them 3 to 4 weeks to give me a new scheduling permit!!! I don't wanna wait that long!

Is it true it takes 3 to 4 weeks to send a new scheduling permit? I've heard from friends that they would usually send it in less than 7 days though they would say so over the phone.

Please clarify!

Thanks!

1.VALIDITY=ACCURACY
That means how well the test will measure what it supposed to measure.
We always need "gold standard test" along with new test to see whether our new test is accurate or not.

Example: one person LDL level consistently showing 140,141 and 140 with new test and with gold standard test it is 140.This means our new test is measuring what it suppose to measure.

2.RELIABILITY
Repeated measurement of the test giving same result that means our test is reliable but we cant say that our test is accurate without comparing with "gold standard test"

Example:like above person LDL is 140,141, and 142.that means our test is reliable because on repeated measurement it is hitting same target. Now we do a "gold standard test" for LDL and it shows value of 120 that means our previous test was not accurate.

In short, look for comparison with "gold standard test" in a Q.Hope this works

Guys,, done with the Exam on 19th.

Heres the overview of what i felt about it...

The question length was more or less similar to nbme 15,pretty long that is. And we get jjust about time to finish doing them and reviewing 10-15 marked questions. may be 5 minutes extra.
Very little neuro questions on my day,,
Sad,,,,cause i had gone through them extensively during the last few days.
BS was always my weak link,,,so may be thats why felt the questions were unheard of. And needless to say,, lots and lots of pathophys

overall it was tougher than i expected, just the 4 CT/MRI ,so that was another disappointment.
Fingers crossed ,,,Hope and pray i get good grades.
All the best guys!!

Previous NBME were not much of help... Had 2-3 same pictures with different questions,,, pretty simple ones.,.. and then 1 exact repeat.
Nbme questions as such were not much help. 90% of questions r new.. 10-15 extremely simple ones.. The rest, u really have to go deep into thinking what, why, how and so on..
Neuro i guess u just have to know basic stuff, thats there in FA. U just have to give it some thought.
And BS, i really have no idea...

And yaa... the extremely simple ones hapen to come in clumps,,,like after a series of tough to medium tough questions..

Default Finaly done!

Hey Guys,

I'm finally done with this exam! Took the exam yesterday! Fingers crossed and praying hard that I get a decent result! For those of you who are yet to tale the exam, trust me guys its doable. Don't waste too much time on XRays/CTs/Histo slides. Altough there were atleast 15-16 of them in my exam but half of them were given away in the stem itself, a few you could deduce and the rest(2-3) only radiologists could read!
In your last few days focus on First aid. If you did Anatomy from Kaplan then do give the brainstem sections a look and be well oriented with Gross Brainstem sections, since you will be asked to identify structures.
The exam is very balanced, its made differently for everyone. Genetics n Ethics were tough but on the other hand Path/Pharm/Phys/Biochem/Micro/Immuno were easy. Besides I don't think there was any other way I could prepare better than focusing FA/UWORLD during the last 2 months of my prep.

Let me know if you guys have any other questions! Id be glad to help!

Congrats to all those who have given the exam and all the very best to the ones remaining to give it in this month. I too was supposed to be giving the exam on Aug 29th but had to postpone it due to some personal medical reasons. Now scheduled it for September end. God one more month of torture.

Default Two digit score correlation

Hi guys. Does anyone know what would be the two digit score for 228 on step 1?
They set the passing score to 188/75 for this year but since they don't give the two digit score now, I just wanna know the correlation.
Thx.
