Listening Step 1 Preparation

Hello,
I am in need of your advice!
I am done with first read through kaplan notes+videos( all subjects)+ pathoma, which I have done subject wise. But stuck in deciding how to start the second read?? should I go subject wise or should I do it in system-wise; what will be better way to retain the concepts? along with that how should I go with FA and kaplan qbank?
left with 6months...would it be enough period to go through kaplan second read+FA+ kaplan qbank+ uworld+NBMEs

Correct Answer

I'm on the same run, I would recommend that you should go Subject wise and do UWorld a few times in the end. Do KLN alteast 2 times for sure..

I would say retaining concepts would be with doing questions, I've tried reading a subject and done reading it and understanding it completely,

and when I was really confident with that I tried doing questions on it, and it was really different point of view and kind of challenging.

MCQ questions require a strategy in answering and the USMLE require a lot of stamina and staying focused and in control for several hours. along with fast answers and fast responses.

so that kind of control requires training your mind to endure all of that pressure.

Excelling USMLE requires training your mind for questions.

Just like wining a concept of swimming is with pool swimming.

I think you should do the following
  • Have you started FA ?
  • If not then you need to start right now .... give a cover to cover read of FA
  • then go for another run of kaplan but this time you should be annotating the important stuff that you have highlighted on KLN on FA
  • during this you can start Kaplan or UsmleRx(better at reinforcing FA) Qbanks...doing block a day randomly
  • this all would take around 2-3 months in general
  • then in the last 2-3 months you will do UW and FA only .... manage to do UW 2 times ...annotate info on FA accordingly ...
  • do NBMEs in the last month

thanks, but won't it be too much time-consuming process i-e annotating each thing from kaplan+uworld on FA, as FA is not in detail!

And how should I do kaplan+FA; systemically or subject wise??

not each thing .... you have to be smart about it .... only high yield stuff .... you can leave histo .... as mostly that part is well covered by patho ... and FA will cover most of the detail but some detail needs to be transferredonly

as for time consumption ... i think that is worth it ...you see when you concentrate on every small detail of kaplan thinking what needs to be put in FA and what not ....your concentration would be way up as compared to just simple reading ...and you will surprised to notice new detail pop up and you will understand that sub better ...atleast thats how things worked for me

and at the end you will have all the detail in a single book and that will certainly save time as you don't have to look for other books for the info and you can use your time efficiently

and do sub wise ....that will ease you up a little bit
