Question stages of iron deficiency

Hi
i have a question about stages of iron deficiency as stated in pathoma.
why is it that the iron storage is depleted first, then comes the serum's ? any logical explanation,doctors?

hmmm .. logic is when serum iron is reduced iron is taken up from the stores until the iron stores are drained.

i also think so. but pathoma emphasized that these stages should be memorized in the mentioned order
