Help Mortality in DM

In UW it has been mentioned that mortality in diabetes from hyperosmolar coma is higher than that from DKA ,, any idea why ?

Most patients with hyperosmolar coma are older and are unable to tolerate the stress of illness and severe dehydration, hence the higher mortality. As compared to dka which presents in a relatively younger group.
