Question USMLE Rx Step 1 Bundle

I have not yet started my step 1 prep but plan on starting in a few months once I am done with school. I found a good deal on USMLERx: their "bundle", which includes the USMLERx QBank, Flashcards and "First Aid Step 1 Express", which are videos, apparently. This all for 12 months is now available for just $299. No, I am not advertising for First Aid!
I am simlpy wondering- this sounds like a good deal to me. What do you think?

Who of you has tried USMLERx and what are your experiences with it? Are the questions similar to the exam?

Has anyone tried First Aid Step 1 express? Are the videos helpful?

Has anyone tried the flash cards?

Is this a deal that I should go for?

I hope to hear some of your experiences to help me decide!

It depends in the end ...will you have time to do that all ??

along with FA,kaplan ,pathoma , goljan and many other resources .... its easy to gather them but its not practical to do them all ....

Do question as much as possible as this is the key ...you can't remember them all but you will be more likely to remember when you do a thing wrong ...

DO questions only by grabbing a 6 month package for half the price ....or 3 month ...

by Kaplan qbank instead if you have enough time ....

if you want flashcards try quizlet and you will find numerous flashcards..

Hm... I am not planning to use Kaplan or pathoma and like I said in my original post I actually can't start studying for a while but was thinking of getting this now because it is a great deal and I thought I might be able to do maybe half an hour a day until I really have time...
/:
Not sure what to do here, but could you please elaborate: have you tried USMLErx qbank and compared it to Kaplan? USMLErx is actually by far the cheapest option... /:

My 2 cents:

1. USMLERx is a very good QBank for Step 1
2. First Aid Step 1 Express is someone reading FA for you.
3. Flashcards--completely agree with npktun
4. "Package deals" are mostly offered when all the products are not selling well.

If I were you, I would save $$ by just buying the Q Bank and use the savings to get a subscription to Pathoma Videos (some very HY concepts/ mechanisms explained very well).

General reviews out there

Usmle Rx ---> good for cramming FA .... Great tool to learn FA ... it highlights info that you will normally take it for granted and pass casually ...

Though i have not bought it yet ... i will in a couple of months ...

Kaplan ---covers anatomy ,Behav, and physio well ... focuses on minute details ... helps you to tackle WTF questions on the exam

If i were you and had a year solely for step 1 prep ... i would have been done with the books in the first 6 months .... with kaplan QBook done in between ....

Then i would have bought kaplan qbank and had it done in a month and a half ...

then i would have bought USMLE Rx --3 month subscription and would had nailed it in a month and a half....

reviewed the both qbanks by doing wrong questions again ...

and in the last 2 months i would have grabbed UW and had finished it accordingly ....

And also annotated and read FA in between .....

Unfortunately, I wont have a year to prepare. I plan on taking 5 months next to work so that will be interesting. But I can't start yet, I am pretty busy with school right now, so I was thinking of maybe getting a qbank now and just start doing questions to get into it and see where I stand...
Is that a good idea?
Also, any tips for a 5 month prep plan?

ditch kaplan qbank and qbook .... do USMLErx along your prep ....and UW at the end ....

Just wondering, if you have not done it yourself, how can you give me this advice?
I am sorry but I am looking for someone who was used USMLERx to tell me if they liked it and recommend it or not...

the advice is a result of reading hundreds of reviews written in past year or two from people who have aced step 1 in every aspect ....

And also you would have found the same reviews if you had spent a little time searching for them rather than making new threads and judged for yourself ....

this issue has been discussed numerous times in this forum and many other forums as well !

Thank you, but I actually did an extensive forum search before posting this, searching evey part of this "bundle", meaning the flashcards, the express videos and the USMLERx qbank. I did not find any clear consensus on the USMLERx qbank. If you can show me such a thread, please do.
Sorry for wondering where you got your information from. I am asking because some people online just make stuff up. I hope you understand.

1. No, I have not done USMLERx Q Bank but a very reliable friend on another forum very strongly recommended it and I am going to start doing next week.
So, if you can wait for about a week or two I will be able to give you my initial impression.
2. I am sure about the videos.

HI Val7,
may be you should put your q in Ck forum?? That way ppl who have used USMLERx and have actually passed Step 1 can give you their honest opinion regarding it's importance relative to the actual test??? Just a thought as not majority of the examinees use it probably.

Val7 don't speak like that. I have studied various post by Npktun and I more often agree with him, he is more read nd researched colleague as far as usmle journey is concerned. It would have been better not to have written ur post.
But u did well by appologizing in subsequent posts.
All the best guys.

Val7 didn't say anything wrong. She clearly asks for the opinion from someone who has used this resource himself/herself. She just asked that in later post as she herself had done lot of research before posting it. There is nothing to feel bad if someone is asking a clear Q not based on the research, but on personal experience. Great regards for Npktun for being so active and helping others on the forum but Val7 was clear in her Q right from the first post that she wants some first hand experience and not opinions from the other threads.

I guess what I wrote sounded a bit harsh but I certainly did not mean it like that.
I guess I should explain: I did do an extensive forum search before asking this. I then asked Npktun if he/she had done USMLERx because I did not know where he/she was getting the info from and wanted to know.
I am asking about this because there have been a few users on this forum who just give you their advice as if it is a "sure thing" when in fact they are not completely sure themselves. Sometimes it sounds like they really know what they are talking about and I have seen people not make the best of decisions because of those posts. So, I am sorry for wondering about that but I just wanted to find out where Npktun got the info from and I think that is reasonable.
Hope you understand my concern!

hm I don't know, I guess it is better to put it in the step 1 forum so that in the future, people looking for it will actually find it... Not sure though

thanks for the kind words ...

Val7
No offence taken ... you had the right to ask as one has limited resources and needs to opt the best choice and only experienced one could tell ...and i also understand that people do often post random thoughts on forums and with no concrete back to go with .....but having follow these forums for a long time and reading numerous reviews .... i thought i would do some good to convey some of their views to save you some time

Goodluck with the rest

Correct Answer My review ..

I did Usmle Rx qbank during my prep, ended up doing some 2200 q's

Pros:
1. Its really good if you are not familiar or easy with case based question, with multi-step thinking (a must do if this is the case)
2. Very effective for cramming FA
3. Easy way to remember different manifestation of single disease process
4. Interface is clean and responsive
5. Explanations are clear and compact
6. Score correlation with your real score is pretty accurate (I dont know why, I got +10 of my USMLE Rx cumulative score)
7. Pretty useful for an IMG

Cons:
1. Most question are simple recall and not concept based
2. Questions are very different from Uworld and therefore actual exam
3. Is not recommended if you are familiar with case based questions from your 1st year
4. Many diseases are repeated again and again with minor changes, it sort of gets boring (I think they should trim at least 400 questions and integrate that knowledge in other questions)
5. Focus mostly on pathology,

Verdict:
Was pretty useful for me. It depends on how much time you have, for an IMG I can say its a must, but do it early in your prep with at least 4-5 months remaining, its a waste to do towards the end. If you dont have much time left, then its better to leave it.

Default First aid express

Val7, dunno if it's still relevant, but you said you weren't going to study right away, so it might be. I'm currently using some of FA express videos, and they are quite a mixed bag. Can be good for a final review.

Microbiology (Rany Woo), GI, immunology, musculoskeletal, psychiatry and reproductive (Nick Theodosakis), biochem (Hoffmann) and respiartory (the editor himself, Tao Lee) are IMO next to useless, they just read FA way too quickly (Theodosakis is especially bad in this respect) with little added value.

But I found Vivek Kulkarni just excellent, he reads CV, pathology and renal. William Huang (embryo, behavioral, endocrine, hemato-onco and pharm) is pretty good, and so is Aaron Feinstein with neurology.

So a mixed bag overall.

I've been studying for 8 months now and will be writing the exam in 3 weeks. I've used far too many resources, and If I could do it all over again this is what I'd use:

1. First Aid
2. Picmonic
3. Pathoma
4. USMLERx: By Organ System, tutor mode, untimed. Helps you to memorize first aid.
5. UWorld: Timed, random

Everything else is unnecessary unless you are extremely weak in a certain area.
