Default I have a problem :'(

I took the USMLE Step 1 on the 17th of June. One the day of the exam, I had a small problem. In the middle of a block, with about 15 questions to go, my computer shut down. 30 mins later it was restarted and, even though the examiner denied it, I knew about 8mins had been subtracted from my exam time. I rushed through that block and ended up not answering about 8 or 9 questions.
Today I got an email saying that I had passed with a 230 but that because of my technical difficulty, I was given the option of either retaking the exam free of charge or taking that score. Now, I haven't looked at a book in a month...and my last nbme was a 228.my last UWSA was 241 and my free 150 was an 87% All were taken within the last week of studying. I honestly don't know what to do. Should I accept this score? I really wanted a 240...but I believe there is a reason for everything. I will listen to your suggestions and I will make up my mind. Whatever happens...I thank God.

I am So sory! i cannot even imagine' it how Hard it woud have been it for you or for anyone God forbids'
its All Luck i guess

Do What ever you feel like but since you asked for suggestions i am Gonaa say
Consider retaking exam only if

1) if your retaking exams (free of charge) is not going to be counted as 2nd attempt

2)if Your NBME scores were Higher like 250+ or 240+
plus Do consider time of prepration for re exam as it might be such a pain

so make sure its Worth it
other wise 228 is Not bad score
may people wud do anything just to reach this High
wish you all the LUck

Default Thank you :)

Actually they said I would have a 230 if I chose not to retake. Right now my mind is telling me not to go back...to just take the score.

If I were in your position, I won't retake it too.
The reasons are:
1. 230 is a good score, it's above the mean for AMG (AMG+IMG mean is even lower)
2. Based on your last NBME (I'm assuming you took it within 10 days before your exam), your score is indeed around 230-ish. Retaking the exam will most probably yield around the same score if not lower, unless you want to take 1-2 month to re-prepare.
3. Don't you just glad it's over

IMO i'll take the 230 and run unless you want to deal with the anxiety of studying again and the "what if's" of scoring less than 230.

your call.

Last nbme around 228 means 230 is your real score despite what happened. Probably the 8-9 questions were even trial question which didnt count in ur score. Infact with some degree of certainty I can say that ur results would not be too different from 230 if u retake exams and u may even get lower score. Considering the pain n stress pls don't even think twice becos 230 is perfect score. If u had gotten below the mean I would have suggested u use the opportunity to try again but not when u hav aced the exams like this.
Congrats my friend!

Even though I don't any of you, I can honestly say right now that I love you all . I know you're all telling me what's best and not what I want to hear. I am happy and something tells me the only reason I want to retake it is that greedy side of me. Retaking the exam because of 8-9 questions, if I get a lower score, I will probably hate myself forever. So thank you all for making me feel better. It's upwards and onwards to STEP2!!
