Trust me, it's not the end. Actually, having a score like that makes it easier to take the decision and stop paying all that money on the USMLEs road. I am not trying to discourage you. Rather, I encourage you to think in other paths. There are many many countries around the world. Trust me, not all the places in the US deserve the effort and money spent on USMLEs to match at. Trust me, many programs, especially where most IMGs end matching at, are total crap and don't teach you at all. You work there just a tool and do the scut work.

Think of it again and again. Do what you love in life, not just USA match!

Best of luck

Relax!! sit back..take sometime and think what you can do.. I was in similar situation 1 year back.. got a 192 in step 1. Somehow managed to get a 224 in CK ( though i expected a higher score in CK too) and passed step 3 too..without any attempts. Just don't lose hope. If you wanna continue..you should but remember it's not gonna be a smooth and pleasant journey.

first of all, just wanted to say that i think it's nonsense for you to quit, or give up now. you taken the first step. aim for higher in step 2. you can do this!

5 years from now, 10 years from now, these step scores will be a distant memory. getting the worst residency position is a million times better than not getting a residency at all (in other words, giving up).

i have to ask you honestly though, did you take any NBME exams to gauge your performance? what were the results of those exams? what were you aiming for? Did you honestly do all of uworld, and annotate into FA too? Ask yourself these questions, before you go onto step 2...learn from mistakes you may have made, and KICK SOME ASS on the step 2!

Don't worry about it. Think how you could improve on Step 2ck. Years from now your scores won't matter at all. Only your skills as a doctor will matter.

As an anecdote, when my dad came to the US in the late 1970's he barely passed, he got the exact number required. He did internal medicine residency at an unknown hospital. He had a very long and productive career as a physician.

Your step scores are completely irrelevant in the long run. They are just a screening tool like MCATs were.

Good luck.

i just took nbme 13 and 7 wid scores of 221 and 238.... It was not really a good sign.but still i was confident wid a u world total average of 65-70%.... I had prepared for jus 4 months but i put my entire effort into it for those 4 months barely sleeping 3 hrs per day... I felt d exam tough more than i expected.... But i was sure enuf to atleast score above 220. And here i stand a total loser having lost my future

how did you study and prepare for the exam? what were your nbme scores? maybe we can help you and tell you what you did wrong, so you don't make that same mistake again for step 2. you can easily match into EM with your score or gp, fm, psych...so don't worry.

How is that possible? Can you post a screen shot of your performance, because I have a hard time believing you were getting these scores and percent, but got a 196 on the exam.
