congrats on the terrific score! i may be wrong, but i think the 2 digit score means absolutely nothing, and residency programs don't even reive that score, because it means nothing to them. i might be wrong htough, but that's what i thought.

Congrats, that's a great score! Would you please tell us how was your prep? What's the difference between your score and your NBME?

there was a lot of difference . i was only getting scores on nbme b/w 460-590 . i did all Nbmes ( 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,11,12,13,15 ) i did miserably in nbme 11 !!! i only got 78% and was really scared after that . but i guess that was the toughest one and the rest were easier . i did terrible in uworld sim also ( form 1 _60 % , form 2 _ 78 % ) . but i kept doing uworld religiously for practice till the end .

i started with kaplan lecture notes , never did their videos or kaplan qbank . i didn't do first aid initially . i didn't do kaplan patho but used golgan audios and rapid review religiously . everytime i finished i chapter / subject , i did Uworld to reinforce my concepts .

i did only one but thourough revision fron kaplan books and listened to golgan one more time . again , i would do uworld after every subject revision .

1 month before the exam , i did uworld , uworld sim.tests, kaplan sim.test and NBmes . i did poorly in uworld sim.tests ( form 1 _ 60 % , form 2 _ 78% ) and did all nbmes ( 1,2,3,4,5 _ offline but timed , and 6,7,11,12,13,15 online ) . my scores in nbme's was mostly 460-500 , except in 15 i got 590 and in 11 i got v. low score (78% ) .

the best tip about nbme's that i can give u is that do them atleast 2-3 weeks before ur exam b/c they guide u on ur weak areas . i used each one of them to understand what i had to brush up before my exam and that really helped !!! and i had time so i put in 2-3 hrs in the morning to revise my weak areas , for which i mostly used 1st aid . the rest of the day , i would do quizzes for 6-7 hrs, timing my breaks just like the exam.

in the last week , i was just listening to golgan audios , reading ( not learning ) first aid for a few hrs and again doing quizzes mostly from uworld to keep myself in the practice of doing questions for atleast 6 hrs .

day before the exam , i looked at patho slides ( golgan ) , anatomy slides and MRIs ( from high yield ) , and studied for 1/2 a day . and left the rest to GOd !

i did all NBme's . 1,2,3,4,5 offline but timed and 6,7,11,12,13 ,15 .
my scores were ranging from 460-500 except in 11 where i did really bad and 15 where i did really good ( 590 ) .

Use nbme to identify ur weak areas , not to mark urself with certain scores b/c that certainly didn't work in my case . i used my borderline and lower performances to my advantage by brushing up and revising my weak areas . that's why by the time i did nbme 15 , i was v. confident and did really well .

i wish u best of luck .

I only did first aid when I was revising from Kaplan books , and that too was just reading . I did add a lot of info from Uworld explanations . I did Uworld 3 times : once with my first reading , 2nd with my revision and 3rd in the last 2 weeks before the exam . In the last 2 weeks , I was also reading first aid , subject by subject 2-3 hrs in the morning , esp for embryo and anatomy . I also went back to neuro from Kaplan lectures . And in the evenings , I would listen to golgan .

Yes I know what u mean . I also feel that I could have done better . I was v. Anxious in the exam and I think I messed up some questions b/c of that . If only we can get over the nervousness , we can all do much better . I actually took 2 mins extra in my second break b/c of which I had 2 mins taken off my last block so I missed 1 question although I was done reading it and knew the answer ! It was a terrible loss . So I guess we have to live with it and move on . I'm sure u will do better in step 2 .

The two digit score was never the percentage. A lot of people that got 99 just liked to tell people it was because they liked the way it sounded saying they got 99% on Step 1.
As for why they don't report in anymore, read here:
http://usmle.org/announcements/?ContentId=111

The two digit score was absolutely useless in the last few years, as programs look at your three digit score. Yours is awesome, btw! congrats!

yes i only did uworld .i did write notes from uworld explanations in my kaplan books b/c i knew i would revise from there only . i would keep first aid with me in my initial readings of kaplan but didn't understand how one can learn from it b/c everything there is too precise and patchy , but i did note down the mnemonics.

i did uworld 3 times . i think the explanations there really helped .

in the last 2-3 weeks before my exam , i didn't have time to read kaplan so then i only read first aid , that too in all my weak areas . and listened to Golgan to cover my patho well .
