Experiences U might not believe me!!!!!

Hi friends, I m an IMG got my step1 result on this Wednesday. I m member of this forum since 3 years and it helped me a lot, now it is my turn to contribute a little. First of all i wana tell u guys little bit about my background.
After getting admission in medical school I stopped studies completely, I usually go to my medical school for only exams. There were many reason behind that
1. I was suffering from major depressive disorder
2. I started some business to support myself
3. Due to many family problems etc.
I completed my 6 years of medical school in around 8 years.
Now u must be thinking how I passed. There were many loops and I was trying to access them. I wana tell u what was my level in medical school
For example: In second year final biochemistry vivas professor asked me
Q. What is glycosuria?
My answer was I don't know.
In third year final pharmacology vivas professor asked me
Q. Tell me the roots of drug administration?
My answer was I don't know.
And threshold of my anxiety was so much when I was going to appear in third year supplementary exam I was only thinking how will i sit in exam hall for 3 hours, than I left exam hall in 15 mins and I went year back. I attempted suicide two times, planed a lot of times in my whole life.
And few days back I was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
After completing my internship I decided to do USMLE, what???
Can u believe I was asking 12 class student to go for USMLE, who even don't know about the A,B,C,D of medicine.
Than I started my preparation of USMLE, the big problem initially was how I will sit on the chair. U can't believe in whole preparation of step1, I was urinating after every 20 to 30 mins due to sever anxiety. When I was going to library for step1 preparation then my school fellows laughing at me in front of me.
But despite of many ups and down I was moving slowly and gradualy and finally day came and I appeared in exam.
I used Kaplan books with videos except pathology.
I used Pathoma for pathology (gold standard)
First aid
Some Kaplan Qbank
USMLE WORLD completed only 90%
My NBME scores
NBME 12: 187
NBME 7 : 189
NBME 15: 200
USMLE WORLD assessment 1: 209
NBME 11: 203
Finally got in exam: 217
I know it is not a great score but I tried my best as much as I can.
U might be thinking why I m telling u my life story because I wana tell u guys, if I can do it than I believe any one can do it with great score, u just have to believe in urself.
I m very thankful to GOD and my all supporters, my brother, my sisters and specially my mother. Love u mom
I missed lot of things, if anyone wana ask anything from me, it will be a pleasure for me to reply you guys. Keep it up and give ur best

hats off to u, mani...
Great job, no you are in good position for ur step2 don't waste time and go over it.... You have rhythm now, don't brake this inertia.

One q from my side, why you choose pathoma instead of Goljan or Kaplan, I and read some chaps of Patho from Kaplan it is boring, I have now completely skipped Patho and starting anatomy today, I have wasted one week in search sources for Patho... Can not afford more time loss. I will finish whole Kaplan course and in the end will do Patho from Goljan? What u say...:

Dear friend i tried to read goljan initially but it too big to retain material and other thing majority of material in goljan in out of step1 syllabus, goljan is asking himself in his audios that I made my notes for All steps not only for step1 than converted his notes into book. Believe me pathoma has all the things which u should know for exam and video lectures r awesome, completely cover all the pathophysiology.
I think u should try pathoma with video lectures. U can try goljan audios too. All the best

Default Thanks for the hope

You don't know Dr. Mulchandani what you just did. You gave a lot of hope to all of those struggling to see the light of another day. I am serious, people like you are truly amazing and inspire others to hang on when the whole world seems to be against them. Thank you.

Dear friend in my exam questions were very easy than uworld, mostly single step questions but some of them were crazy only 10%, I think exam was easier than NBMEs too.

congrats to you on your success! you seemed to have experienced so many obstacles but still managed to reach your goal.

i just took NBME 12 and got a 196. Do you think I'm ready to take the actual exam? I've studied UWORLD, PATHOMA, KAPLAN, and FA. I feel like I'm ready to take it. Do you suggest I take another NBME?

I wish I can pass my exam too. Your thread truly gave me inspiration. Again many congrats!!! Good luck with the rest of your exams.

Congratulations!!!! I'm so happy you shared your story with us! I feel our stories are a bit similar. I can totally relate to not knowing the basic answers to questions during the vivas while I was in med school. It took me a long while to prepare and finally give step 1. I'm waiting for my score which is expected in 10 days. Good luck to you for your next exam! )

Thumbs Up Keep it up

My Dear Friend
It almost took me 3 years for step1, first 2 years only for preparing myself for study and last year for real study but on and off with many gaps. I suffered alot in between that and still also with lots of anxiety and some times depression. Many times i was thinking why i m giving so much stress to myself despite of that i can settle in my own country and start practising medicine and enjoy my life or i can do further study along with earning in my country than life will be much easy than doing usmle but but but one thing always bugging me that if i have to practise medicine than first of all i have to get best training in world that is in US and for that i have to do usmle.
No one is forcing me to do it, it's my own wish, so for that if i have to suffer 24/7. i m ready for that and i m ready to deal with any situation but i have complete my dream anyhow with any cost and i will never compromise on it.
U even can not imagine how much i suffered for this up to now and many more is waiting but my dream is much bigger than these problems so it's my advice to u as a good friend NEVER QUIT, NEVER LOOK BACK, ALWAYS ONLY FOCUS ON UR DREAM, FORGET ABOUT THE WORLD AND KEEP GOING.
Best Of Luck
