Question Taking Step 1 in November...worth applying for 2014?

I am an IMG, and an old grad. I want to at least see if I can get in on the SOAP, because I do plan on taking the Step 2 as early as possible, and my CS will be done in December.

I mean, I know my chances will be low for regular match. But is it still worth attempting to go for the SOAP?

And more importantly, after I apply, and if I don't get matched, then will it hurt my chances for subsequent matches the following year?

BTW, that November date is Early November, but that's the ultimate latest deadline I've given myself. I'm realistically aiming to take the exam end of September.

I personally feel its better if you work towards the next match...Because most of the programs download their application by November....given your situation your application will be complete only by december....by the time which programs would have already sent their invites...

1.Dont give your steps in a hurry as scores are the most important criteria at the end of the day.Its better to lose a year..atleast you will be a competitive applicant next year....but if you write your steps in a hurry inorder to apply this year and score very low....it will make things even more tougher for you as the match is getting competitive every year

2.Since you will be done with CS in dec...it takes atleast two months for the result to be out and another two weeks for ecfmg certification...

3.I havent heard anyone getting matched in SOAP so far...so cant really comment about it...

4.Few programs dont accept old graduates...unless you have stellar scores and exceptional CV....So find out the programs which easily accepts old IMGS and work out your application based on their requirements....

5.So even if you get two or three ivs...again.this season..its highly unlikely the program will rank you higher when they have many candidates application which is more complete and competitive than yours....

So My opinion is work for a very good scores in all the 3 steps and try to get some USCE which will fetch you nice LORS and apply next year.

PS: again its all my opinion based on what i have heard from ppl..so dont completely rely on it......if you feel like you have very good credentials and strong contacts ..... then go ahead and apply this year......take some advice from people around you and do what suits you the best....

All the best
