EKG MI Diagnosis Gold Standard; ECG or Troponin!

Hi friends,
I recently read from FA that ECG is the gold standard in diagnosing MI...but a while ago i had read it is z Troponin I which is the gold standard. how do you guys buy these conflicting ideas??

I believe it takes atleast 12 hours for troponin levels to increase. I think troponin levels may be increased in kidney diseases. ECG shows more immediate changes. I would say ECG.

as far as my recollection is concerned, troponin I starts rising as early as 4hrs after AMI. ......so the puzzle continues on me!!!!!

According to step up to medicine book, ECG is more of initial test, while cardiac enzymes are gold standard in diagnosing myocardial injury, especially Troponin I. While CK-MB is useful in diagnosing reinfarction, since it drops in the plasma after 2 days but Troponin remains in the plasma for 2 weeks. I think checking how the question is phrased and the choices you have might help in such a dilemma.

I would say EKG is Gold standard and the gold standard for MARKERS is Troponin I: so lets make it
GOLD STANDARD: EKG and Troponin I
