Ideal time for electives is Middle of Final year or during your final year when ever you get elective break. Remember the more recent USCE counts more towards your residency application.

If you think you have a command over your clinical skills by final year, Step 2 CS wont be that difficult and can be taken during your elective stay in US, that way you will be saving your self an extra trip to US.

Step 2 Ck comprizes of clinical subjects namely
  1. Medicine
  2. Suregery
  3. Paeds
  4. OB/GYN
  5. Psychiatry
  6. Public Health
Since we complete all these in final year, the ideal time to take step 2 Ck will be right after(2 months after) graduation provided you were preparing for it with the kaplan series and other recommended books along with your course books.

So,we have:
step1:middle of the 4th year
step2cs:middle of the final year(along with the electives)
step2ck: 2months after graduation

The only problem is that someone who follows this time schedule, may lose 2 years.Because lets say that someone graduates at 2014.then he will be enough late for the match 2015(the programs want you to be done on September-October right?).So hes going to apply for the match 2016.
Specially for those who need to take step3(H1b visa matter).
Do i miss anything...??

Well if you are graduating in 2014. The earliest match you can apply for is 2016 on september 2015 provided you also want to take Step 3. So if you start your steps preparation from scratch after graduaiton you might take a year longer that is 2017.So following this schedule is always a win-win situation.
