Question match 2015??!

hi,
i'm an IMG. started preparing for step 1. i read the article saying "match 2015 not possible for IMG's". is it the thing??
and also if anyone can help.. should i be doing any observerships/clerkships now? or concentrate on step1 only?
(i completed my final year this march, now an intern.)

suggestions are most welcome.

I cant comment about the impossible thing for IMG in 2015....all i can say is it is getting competitive every year....

1.You can only take part in clerkship until you graduate so dont miss that opportunity as hands on experience are always better than observership...and you have to apply atleast 4 to 6 months in advance in most of the places.....so plan accordingly so that you finish your step 1 and go for your clerkship....

2.Some of the places which accepts students for clerkship without step 1 score are Harvard,Yale,Weil cornell,NIH,univ of kansas, tufts university,John hopkins(research elective)....these are the places that i know ...

3.Most of univ nowadays are asking for step 1 score for electives..so if you apply with your step 1 score...you will have lot of univs to apply like cleveland clinic, case western university, univ of cincinnati,Univ of north carolina,Univ of commonwealth virginia, univ of texas,Baylor univ etc....incase if you are in a position to finish off your step 1 soon..then finish it and apply with your step 1 score ....or else apply for places which doesnt require step 1 score...

4.But again...Scores are ultimately important than any other thing...so dont try to finish off step 1 in a hurry inorder to apply for electives...then you will be in trouble forever if you end up with low scores....

all the US univ requires you to be a final year med student...In countries like india...internship is considered the final year of medical school...so you will be eligible to apply for clerkship until you finish your internship...so dont worry abt that..

Since you will be done with step 1 by dec...you will get your scores in Jan...so in that one month time arrange all the documents ...and apply by Jan end...so apply for slots like June,July,August..so that you will have a better chance of acceptance... Try to give ur toefl as soon as u finish your step 1 becoz it takes atleast four to six weeks for the score report to be delivered...and most of the univ requires toefl score report...Try to checkout the univ websites i have mentioned and checkout the requirements as it keeps on changing every year..If you have any doubts email the clerkship co ordinator...

All the best...

Externships are very hard to get these days compared to observership..I only know two hospitals that provide that...

Jackson Park hospital chicago- Family medicine
St Elizabeth hospital -washington - Psychiatry...

I am not aware of any other hospital..do google and ask others..because i m sure there will be some more places which provide these...
