is it just remembering or also understanding the concepts?

if the recalling part the hard one then practicing that particular topic with questions is the best way, dont get frustrated youll do great
if your problem is understanding concepts in a better way i suggest looking on youtube on the topic in matter and seen other review books as well (that helped me a lot)

Unhappy Hate Biochemistry!

Ive been doing biochem since a week from KLN n im facing difficulties understanding a few concepts especially the genetics bit. Is LIR Biochem a better book or should i stick with KLN?
And will watching the Kaplan videos for biochem help?
Im in my first read of KLN, so havent really subscribed for any Qbanks yet, so where can i practice mcqs from? Or should i just get an online Qbank? And which one to begin with?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

i think sticking to one book is good. I did KLN with the kaplan videos n it helped in understanding things better as they tell you what is high yield n what is low yield.

I have seen a lot of students struggle with biochem, mainly because memorizing a lot of pathways becomes difficult due to the complexity and detail involved.

One of the best ways to learn and master complex materials such as biochem and physiology, is to draw things out. Get yourself a stack of blank pages and go through each topic and draw things out.. whether it be pathways, cycles, etc. When you do this, it takes away the need to simply memorize a bunch of info, and turns it into visual memorization, which for many students, is much easier to do.

Give that a try, it can only help!

Best of luck.
