hi..i am yet to apply for residency and i am not familiar with your exact situation ...but rotating in u.s for clinicals is certainly a plus...dont give up ..and try to improve ur application with the next steps you will take...you have al ready crossed a major hurdle by clearing step 1....i wish u gl ahead...stay calm...take some days off....discuss with your seniors and friends about what u can do next to optimise your chances...

and above all be happy and peaceful...the road ahead might be hard but eventually everything will be fine

Is this your first attempt? If so, you have nothing to worry about, just work extremely hard on the CK and score higher. When I was in my rotations, I treated each rotation as if there was a huge final exam afterwards, meaning I studied incredibly hard using Kaplan for each rotation. Take tons of notes, work hard on the floor, and you will see a solid score on the CK.

Pass the CS on your first attempt (extremely important)

Some other ways you can improve your resume include the following:

1. Do as much research or volunteer work with your attending (more you can do for them, more you can put on your residency application)
2. Try to take the Step 3 by the time you do your interviews (this will help you stand out from the pack)
3. You have USCE (this is important and helps you stand out)
4. Contact programs you have a chance of matching at, get your name out, reach out to the residents and attendings who are there, and try to get some face time with the decision makers in the program.
5. Join some associations (goes on your resume)

No matter what your score is these days, competition is stiff. You really want to work extremely hard and do as much as you possibly can in the medical realm in order to stand out. Do things that get yourself noticed and known, as this can improve your changes.

Best of luck, don't get down on yourself, just keep focused on the goal.

Default hey

hey medstufflife. i got my score on the 21st of august and got exactly the same as you - a 198.im not very sad cause all my nbme scores were actually below 198.so i knew i was going to get a borderline score and just went for it.so im probably a little more enthusiastic about the score but i would rather be in this position than having to open my FA book again and study for it from scratch again.so cheer up.im sure there is plenty of things left for us to do and we will do what is necessary when needed.but for now lets enjoy a few days off cause it is quite an achievement to pass this exam also.so good luck and keep in touch k.

KEEP GOING GUYS. I haven't taken my steps yet. in the last stretch of my prep and the NBMEs is kicking my butt. You will hear stories of people getting 240s and greater. And you might feel you are not good enough or your score is too low to even brag about. But remember you have cleared a big huddle in the step process. So kick butt during rotations, do your best on Step 2 CK and kiss some butts eventually you will get to where you need to be.

Some program directors have a 200 cut off, while some 220 cut off, and some "a first time pass". So keep that in mind. ALL HOPE is not lost. YOU PASSED.
