You have a new patient on your floor. Patient presents with peripheral edema, JVD and difficulty with deep inspiration.
What receptor in the lung is most likely responsible for the inhibiting deep inspiration.

1. Juxta-capillary Receptor
2. Juxta-glomerular Receptor
3. Juxta-arteriolar Receptor
4. Juxta-endothelial Receptor

yes... difficult one...no help from Pathoma or FA, this is RR stuff

I don't want my 3rd proff to be affected so I want to devote 2 months to 3rd year subjects also..and since pre-proff exams start in oct, I want to finish step 1 before July.. I've just started preparing so I don't know whether I'll be thorough by May.. I want to give step 1 by June... So I'm confused about which eligibility period to choose... Any advise would be appreciated.. Also by when (latest) can I choose my eligibility period ?

Hi I'm in my final year and my prof exams would also start in November
I had planned on giving it last year just like you but i figured out that 4-5 months was too less time since our basics are usually pretty awful so i postponed it (thankfully)read for almost a year on and off and now I'm much more confident, however if you feel comfortable already you may take it now its upto you!
i think latest you can apply such that ur app reaches them in the first 3 weeks of the beginning of ur eligibility, but you should ideally start early since the process takes one or two months...

Background: Graduated last year (2013)
Study material: Pathoma + FA + HY anat + HY neuro + UWorld
Date of preparation's start: On and off for 2-3 months but seriously started february 2014
Hours/day(average): 4-5hrs/day
Plan: Will be done with Pathoma and first read of FA this week. Finished HY anat.
Plan to start Uworld in April after skimming through FA once more and reading the notes i made from pathoma.
Goal: 230+

This week i'll be done with my first read. I want to know should i start Uworld and after 2 weeks give my first NBME. Or should i give the UW practice test and then start doing questions then NBME. I don't know how to go about it. I don't want to do an NBME right now cuz I'm not confident enough but in order to know where i stand i need to do some sort of test...

Any advice/suggestions? Did you form a Facebook group?

Hi sister,
U can improve ur score, just revise again and again (FA,UW). I know It is easy to say but at least positive attitude can change ur mind and progress. So be strong. Lets do it all together...

Hi Pranav,

I have finished 1 reading of Kaplan lecture notes with CA anywhere plus FA. I have been doing UWorld questions daily and so far have done around 1200 questions. I have just started Becker's Integrated cases. I intend to now do a second revision aiming to consolidate and integrate the concepts and facts.

How is your prep going on?

Hello Tayeb!
I think your exams in may too?
ive done the same as you...
how many correct did you get for your 217?
I did Form 11 offline and got 175 correct, just wanted to correlate...
Also gave 13 but got only 168 correct, some silly mistakes!

Hey guys, I guess I'll throw my name in the ring, a hopeful Mid-June Test Taker.

Background: US IMG, 4th year out of 6 total
Test Time: Mid June hopefully (test period of June-July-August), but giving myself some room, heh heh
Goal:260+
Start Time:About July 2013
Hours Per Day: Average 3-4 hours per day from July 2013-Jan 2014, 5-6 hours/day since Jan 2014, slowly increasing. Should be averaging 8 hours a day as the test day comes. (I can't do anymore than that, my brain just turns to mush. Good thing the real test tops out at around that time too, .
Materials used (so far):
FA2013x3
Pathomax2, Goljan Audios x2
Kaplan Biochem, Genetics, Pharm, Behavioral Science, Gross/Embryo x 1
Conrad Fischer Bioethics x1
BRS Physio x 1
Dr. Najeeb Neurology videos x 1
USMLERX 70% Finished
Kaplan Qbank 17% Finished
Uworld 41% Finished
NBME 7 (Offline, October 2013) ~206
NBME 11 (January 10) - 221
NBME 12 (February 21) - 228
NBME 13 (April 1 ) - 243
It's all about the Q's. Going through all that material doesn't really mean much until you starting in questions in the thousands. Things are finally starting come together. I think that original goal of 260 is possible, but it's going to be close.

From here on out, it's gonna be most alternating USMLERX qbank questions with UWORLD questions (in timed random mode). On my sucky subjects (Anatomy/Micro/Reproductive/Endocrine) I'll spend a few days here and there doing Kaplan questions for them in Timed-Subject mode. Then reading FA in my spare time, hopefully getting through the whole thing at least two more times before the test.

Hoping I can still take the test Mid June, leaving a few weeks for exams, and then a nice long relaxing break

Also, I have this problem where I can't make it through the day without taking an hour nap at around noon. This will be problematic during the test day, as that will take up the whole allotted break time. Also, it leaves me groggy for while, which is obviously bad. Any suggestions?

Hello,
Try to change your life style from now. It is all about training yourself. You will struggle in the beginning, but ultimately you will go through.
cheers,

Count me in: Exam is planned for May end.

NBME 7 online 3 weeks ago 25 wrong -> 239
NBME 11 online today 17 wrong -> 251

NBME 11 is pretty nice... the first block I got a perfect score with zero mistakes. Felt pretty neat doing it. The other blocks are ok, most things I got wrong by just picking the wrong answer when I came down to 50/50 or not reading the stem or just not knowing the answer (the one with the cat/dog/bat)

I am taking the day off, and start a second run of Uworld tomorrow.

exam in 4 weeks, starting my 2nd read of FA, did a plan for 8 days, 64 pages per day, sounds not too much but so far it is im struggling my first day, hopefully the rest of the days will go smoother, and is HELL BORING reading all over again hahaha. but is a MUST.
wanting to get over with this soon.
hoe many pages did you guys read daily for 2nd read of FA?

Hey buddy, I know what you are saying... I wanted to do 70 pages a day... you can skim pages like behavioral but the whole Micro chapter has so much content, that is becomes hard to even do 50 pages a day.

I am currently doing 2nd run of Uworld systemwise and reading FA along with it. I also listen to the Goljan audio tapes.
I already wake up every morning thinking about the exam and get a little nauseated
I mean I worked so hard and I just want to get a good result according to the amount of material I studied.

What are you guys doing for gross anatomy, so far all the question I came along either ask upper limb plexus or abdominal blood supply questions.. nothing too crazy.

We should try to achieve perfection in FA as I feel it is the key, at least that what my friend told me who recently took the exam. E.g. if they ask for treatment of Toxoplasmosis you either know it or you don't... or asking how many segments Influenza virus has...

Guys lets motivate one another!

Absolutely useful, before your exam you don't have time to skim all the books you had during the months of preparation. It is always good to write down important facts into FA. Don't write down stuff that is already in FA, I did that a couple times and then realized it was already there. Maybe you also want to take different colors for different sources (Uworld = blue, Kaplan = green). All the best!

Default Anyone doing an exam in May?

Hello everyone,

It's been way too many years since I passed my uni. Now planning to take an exam and decided to join the group since I scheduled it on May 18th. Feeling extremely sad actually, as I am doing questions from UWorld and Kaplan and sometimes it feels like I remember absolutely nothing. Anyone in the same boat?
Best

Default May 15

Hi everyone!

My step 1 exam is on May 15
I only studied FA 2012, Goljan Audio, USMLE world

Background: IMG graduated April 2012, took 1 year clinical internship in our country, then took the local board exam and passed.

UWSA is 201 only.

but Im still hopeful. I cant cancel this test bec my STEp2 CK is on June 20 (just 5 weeks after Step1).

I dont believe in luck. I only believe in hardwork and prayer. May all of us pass this exam! :-)

Good luck, ladydoctor! I know we can do it!

And as for your study material, I've heard that FA alone plus USMLEworld should be enough, so just know it perfectly.
(At least I'm trying to )

Best of luck to everyone

Exam planned for May30th, just took UWSA2 and it says 254 (690). Some parts were easy, some were hard, some stupid mistakes.
Blocks were 83,72,80,74%

any input?

Your uworld score is not reliable at this stage. I would take the new NBMEs 15 or 16. 15 is the hardest one and you can not get lower than that in the real exam, so don't be discouraged if you get a low score.

36 wrong isn't too bad... so you did bad on the fist block but on the other 3 blocks your scored 86,6% in general which is pretty good

Let me guess: The questions you got wrong can all be answered with FA... at least most of them.

Which NBME did you take? Well general health principles contains everything I guess, I got one wrong and it was an acid-base question, another on was about antibiotics...

The first ones in the first block were strange for me the others were solvable from FA. Is it wise to go back to some notes(neuro ,pathoma, behavioral and bio(genetics)? As they are my weakest subjects? Or should i focus on FA?

take nbme 7 5 wont help you much and then for a week do only those subjects you are week at preferably with someone who is good at them will save you alot of time that way i improved 30 points within 6 weeks doing this though i have yet to take the actual exam good luck

Ah no sorry... I meant something different... I did NBME7 a few weeks back and 1 of the questions I got wrong (out of all from general health principles) was the one with acid base...

sorry

I wish I only got one wrong.

How was NBME 15? Weird questions? FA content? But honestly you must have been over 240 with your number of wrong questions...congrats!

yes fa+uworld pretty much covers it there were few i have no f***ing idea questions and some simple recall which i got wrong and though i am not at complete liberty to say this since i havent taken the exam but from what i have observed fa+uworld if done properly will get you around 240-250 mark but if you want above this you must know your goljans and kaplans well

Haven't taken the exam either, but I doubt the thing with Goljan/Kaplan. I did Kaplan an annotated important things in my first aid, but most of it was already mentioned. Same with Goljan, which is good for Path/Physio, but doesn't help in simple recall of drug side effects

Some question where people score 20% on Uworld are super easy when you have clinical background and worked as a fourth year medical student before.
I didn't come across Leucine zippers or Zinc fingers in Goljan, Kaplan and FA, one question in Uworld though. So these can be considered the WTF questions I think, cause you either know them or you don't.

I think you can even score higher if you get all recall questions correct instead of the WTF ones.

So I did NBME 11 a few weeks back and got a good score, after going over my wrong ones I realized that another 40% (of my wrong ones) were concepts from FA/Uworld, one was answered by Goljan audio and another one by Pathoma.

So I did NBME 11 a few weeks back and got a good score, after going over my wrong ones I realized that another 40% (of my wrong ones) were concepts from FA/Uworld, one was answered by Goljan audio and another one by Pathoma.
i cant do anything about the wtf questions as i am just a week out better do the things i am weak at in fa and try to mantain my score or slightly improve since i heard 240s can get you in a good im residency

Absolutely! Focus on FA and the "easy recall questions" such as Terbinafine vs Griseofulvin vs Micafungin/Caspofungin. A simple recall question can be answered in 5 seconds. There is nothing you can do about the WTF questions.
But buddy don't forget: "Every questions has only one correct answer, why shouldn't you be able to find it with a common sense of mind."

Study hard during the last days and send me pm if you want to talk.

and about kaplan goljan i meant the extra things that are there that are not too high yield and not present in fa since fa cant include everything there is on the test

the concept of one form being difficult then the other is very wrong these are standardized tests all the forms are pretty much the same for example people say that form 11 is easy and 12 is diffiult and i actually got 4 more correct on 12 then 11 and there was hardly a gap between the two

doing uworld and anottate in my FA13. Besides that i read FA to fill some gaps. By the way do you think we should read FA at least 3 times before exam? I started uworld bu hasnt finished FA yet. But still my cumulative is around 85 percentile Do you think FA will make a big difference? I mean if not ı dont wanna waste my time. I am one of these clumsy and easily get bored type

May the god be with you

If your UW cumulative percentile is 85 you don't need to go over FA again, just walk to the exam and dot waste your time!

I don't know how difficult are those questions! I kept postponing my exam till now, this time I am positive and will not postpone it further. I still do recommend to take one NBME though, just to put yourself in simulated exam state!

Hey my friend! İt seems like you read goljan. Do you think it is really important to read goljan for step preparation. I mean if it only helps with questions that you write i will skip it bc the exam most likely comprises of 10-15 wtf questions. İn my case do you highly recommend me to read it? I am in bg dilemma.

2 months left to exam. Did 2XPathoma and Kaplan pathology. İ feel like i am in good shape in patho. At least uworld says i am in good shape. But i aim for 250+

Thx for your advice

Hey my friend... I didn't really do Goljan. I read a few chapters, but in my understanding it is too hard to retain. I did Pathoma, FA, Uworld for Path and I didn't miss a single path question on NBME 13.

Guys anyone else feeling super tensed and scared?

I feel super tense and scared although i have 2 months. But i think feeling that way is good. That means we are on the right track. We studied hard and we have every reason to expect this hard work finally will be paid with a decent score.
