Group talk May-June-July 2014 Step 1 Exam Takers

Hello everyone!

I am planning to take Step 1 in May-June 2014. The idea occured to me when I saw December 2013 group and how succesful it was. I think it'll be of great help for all of us, to encourage each other, to exchange info about study plans etc.
I hope you will join me in this effort to ace in Step 1.

Star Structure of 1st message

Wow...we've got our first member(alba_) and our first "follower"/friend(loukas92). I hope this group gets bigger. Anyway, let's get to work. In order to meet each other it would be helpful to have a specific structure in our first message. In other words...

Background:
Study material:
Date of preparation's start:
Hours/day(average):
Plan:
Goal:

So in my case...(Paroikos)
Background:Just finished my 4th year in a 6-year medical school in Europe
Study material:Kaplan lecture notes(except Goljan RR for Path.,BRS for Physiol. and CMMRS for Microb.)FA,FA Q&As,Kaplan Qbook and of course UWORLD and Kaplan Qbank(+Kaplan videos????)
Date of preparation's start:hoping 01/09/13 (I have gathered all my books but I still do not start...this is why I am all the time online!)
Hours/day:Due to busy schedule(I'll have my rotations)hoping for 5-8h.
Plan:
Goal:...(drums sounding on background)...as higher as I can. Since I will devote so much time/money/effort/etc. I want to ace,as all of us. If I must say a specific number...260+

So spread the word! Let's help each other ace!

No place for a July guy? I plan to take my exam around mid-July. A Skype discussion group is an amazing idea.

Don't worry. There is enough "room" for everyone.

As far as skype idea is concerned, I think we should give it a try and see whether it works or not. But we must find a common hour for our trial-"meeting".

as for the plan initially it will be focused around first aid ....after that will tackle any Q bank if im satisfied with my preformance that will be it ,if not then might supplement with Kaplan
my basic knowledge is next to zero

but hopefully will cross the 260+ as i dont think that i did great on my step 2 CK (waiting for my results )

My UW first time random timed was 77 percent and second time 95 percent .
UWSA 260.
Best of Luck to you too

The 2010 Kaplan lecture videos are still good. Just try to get the latest LN. You're all set then.

Guys,

I'm a medstudent from China, graduating around July 2014. Trying to take my step 1 exam around that time as well. I've started with biochem, kinda felt like biochem is the heart of all subjects, and If I did it first, the cross-reference with physio, pharm, and pathology will be helpful later on. I'm in the middle of my it now. My time zone is UTC/GMT +8, and I mostly will do clinical case discussions of the step 1 around the weekends. So my Skype is lidoguy in case anyone is interested.

I wouldn't make that mistake! I know people who regretted not covering Histo well, and the exam bombarded them with it. The beauty of the step 1 is the predominance of a specific subject is so random.

I never heard about Kaplan LNs 2013 yet.

BTW what is your advice about FA 2014.

If I start in (November).
Should I wait for the next 2014 ed? or use 2013 which I already have
but did not start studying yet !!

Default Hi

Hi every one
I just saw this thread
I graduated on 2010
My resources r kaplan books and Goljan and of course first aid and uw q bank
My plan is to finish first read of every thing then restudy them with first aid and in the last three months doing uw q bank
I read every day 0-3 hours (yes 0 I know that's horrible ) but I am a mom of two years old boy and I have no live study partner at all I hope this thread will encourage me
And ya my goal is 260+ ()

whats the answer??
I guess it to be B.. as body would try to conserve internal heat at the expense of vasoconstriction in the skin.

I do not know the answer as well. But I think the right answer is D! Since it is oral and not IV, I don't see any reason why it would change the body temperature.

Guys, Post any interesting questions that you find it might help the other members, or it is an area of discussion....

Question 1: If a man shows up it is most likely due to hypertension, a woman due to pregnancy... answered in Kaplan behavioral books.

Question 2: Skin cancer is the most common, Kaplan/Pathoma and all other books mention it, but if you disregard it the sequence for incidence would be 1.Prostate/Breast 2.Lung 3.Colorectal and for mortality 1.Lung 2.Prostate/Breast 3.Colorectal

A 56 year old manager of a small firm presents to clinic with progressive fatigue and occasional heart palpitations over the last six months. She states that she has been under a lot of stress recently due to some problems at work. She has also been eating out frequently and admits to drinking two to three ans of beer on the weekends. her blood hemoglobin level is 8.5 mg/dl and the peripheral blood smear reveals pale microcytes. The initial evaluation of this patient should be focused on identifying which of the following?

A- Poor nutrition.
B- Blood loss.
C- Hemolysis.
D- Hematologic malignancy.
E- Liver disease.
F- Drug abuse.

The Correct answer is B, Blood loss.
Hypochromic, microcytic anemia is most commonly due to iron deficiency. Blood loss (especially in the GIT) must be ruled out in a patient with iron-deficiency anemia.

Well I finished Kaplan books and videos and now I am doing firstaid and Uworld combined with Pathoma and BRS physiology. I am studying the system by system longitudinally.
