Yeah did UWSA 1 and got 245. honestly i think they about the same. 1st felt easier. But over all UWSA give to high scores.

i fail to understand that although uwsa feels tough when u r giving it, it tends to overestimate scores. hope that our actual step 1 scores are not very scarily different from these..

thx for your input ...

i Think for score prediction NBME should be relied on ... But for simulation and practising sake uWSA will be good ...

Do you ppl also tear apart NBME qs after you do nbme .. or only use it for assesment ... as i dont get much time for this .. also explanations nd aswers ppl give can be confusing at times ... !!

Default Joining the joy-ride.

Mine is on 22nd of October. Hey choline, I suggest you DO dissect those wrong NBME questions and try to figure out where you're lacking...

By the way, have you people been practicing pictures? Man I'm struggling with that. Whenever a question demands an answer directly from the picture I panic. I wish there was a common book or online source for us to practice. Some of those NBME pictures are just not fair. Histo slides, arteriograms etc. Any thoughts?

So to update . . . .

I have finally regained 80s scoring after a 70s and one 60 patch . . . .. .

Trying to maintain it in uworld . . . .. .

i will try to finish uworld in next week and half and then take nbme . . . ..

So now my uworld Cumulative with mixed random improved to 76% . . . .
hoping momentum continues and get rid of this beast . . ..

Hey! Do they provide a USMLE styled 3 digit score as well? Just curious, am about to start with Kaplan Qbank and i heard the simulation test comes along with it.

You mean they asked to calculate the exact value? That's weird. Then the question must provide precise numbers on the graph. If not, the pattern of FVC/FEV1 (for obstructive vs restrictive disease patterns) can be easily deciphered from the shape of the graph (as explained pretty well in the notes). If you can post up a question that might help.

Ah. Well I didn't see any such questions in UWorld. I'll be starting with Kaplan Qbank shortly, maybe I can be of help then. Good luck

By the way how was your experience with UWSA? I know it's not predictive but perhaps the questions would be a good practice. It's Uworld after all!

Did last week NBME 13---238, felt harder then NBME 7 (got 245)

UWSA score is not predictive i think. i got much higher then on NBMEs.,,,but i agree is a very good practice!!

My view point regarding your situation is Do FA once more wether its with DIT or not ... its upto you ... DIt may help ... But imp is a good solid insightful reading of FA and then revise uworld again .... But others can only give you there view point ... Its only you who can understand your situation better than others ...
so do what your heart says will bemefit you most from others advise ...
Goodluckkk

I wouldnt have delayed my exam if I were you after getting 224. But now that you have done it stick to the date you are going to give the exam and improve on your weaker areas.

See where your weaknesses are and work harder on those. You've got 1 month which is sufficient time to get to 240 + .

Its not really that hard how people say...but it is hard. You just have to think more through the quesitons. But there were also bunch of very very easy Q's.

Default Doctors in training step 1 2013

there is a site that allows us to group but this course.. the more the no. of interested members the cheaper and quicker we can access it..

http://www.feedurbrain.com/forum/sho...rd-Chance-GB-3

i really want this course but its too expensive if i buy it alone.. you have to register at feedurbrain.com first to find out more.

you have to go register at this site feedurbrain.com first then go to this link i posted.then write" im interested" in the space under tis thread just like others members who have joined this group buy. you dont have to pay the money now. once we have enough intersted members, the group buy goes live. The forum moderators then post a payment link and the exact payment amount.it may seem complicated at 1st but its actually pretty easy and reliable.

Signed up for October 25th earlier tonight. I wanted to take it earlier cause i practically feel ready, but it still gives me nearly a month to review! . Finished U world the second time with an 82% average (but i dont look at the average cause ive been using it as a tool to learn...so i do a lot of the blocks and questions again to solidify concepts in my mind). Ive been studying on my own since January, but really rushed things and messed up my studying and NBMEs...Decided to change tactics a couple of months back and i couldnt be feeling better!!

Went over the old NBME6, felt like i could answer almost all the questions. I am planning to take NBME 7 again, and then do NBME15. I will also try and go over my other NBMEs as well and take the UWSA's. I have been doing U world blocks at random, highest scores have been nearly 100% and lowest so far was like a 79%. What do you guys think is the best strategy with a month to go?

Wish me luck!!

Did NBME 12 just now got 242. I think it's so far the most retarded NBME .with like 5 calculation questions . I think 15 is much easier with more straightforward question.
In couple of days gonna do my last NBME 11.
NBME 7 is so far the easiest if then all

Did you do ANY NBMEs online and if so hows your scores??
I think since u did twice Uworld, there is no point doing it again 3rd time. I say just get USMLERx and do it till exam like 3-4 blocks a day. It will help u retain small details plus you will go over FA with it.

GOOOOD LUCKK!!! Good luck to ALL of us

did RX a while back...like before i did U world the second time. I did do online NBMEs...did the first one way back in March and a couple of other ones soon after...barely passed one one of them, and failed 2 other ones...but that was then, when my studying style totally wasnt right. I hadnt done FA pretty much at all. My plan now is to just keep hitting FA, going over weak points, doing my flash cards, and doing practice tests...thats what i will be doing .

To be frank, i was never a person who went by how many pages i read or whatever it was. I know a lot of people study that way, but i dont. I just find it confusing to keep track of how many pages i read. Honestly preparing for this exam, isnt about how many pages you read...its about knowing the material. I know FA gets boring, i know it does. Trust me, i went through that some months ago...but then if you approach FA as a tool that will help you solidify your knowledge, it will be much better . Best thing to do is to read FA and then do questions...do U world and if you have time, do USMLERX because that Qbank is bassically like doing FA all over again. By the end of the review season, when you know the material well, FA goes by really fast...

Okay, so My exam is in last week of october, Had some delays but finally I have a date. I have gone thru UW twice and my UW subscription expires in few days and I still have 3 more weeks till the exam _ So the question is should I renew the Subs. or get another Qbank for practicing questions - If so Which one - Usmle rx or kaplan - also I have gone thru Rx a long time ago - I dont think, i remember the questions but I am aware of the format. So should I get kaplan Qbank ---???
Please advice

I think u should do RX again. It's gonna help you solidify sml details from FA.

So I did exam October 3rd.
Exam was doable I don't think it was harder then NBME or uworld.
I was asked pretty much about everything.
Some suggestions:
1) know your vitamins. I had like 4 qs on it
2) know anemias.
3) micro mostly straightforward . One q was to guess bacteria which was legionella. And then what the treatment was
Asked how Strogeloidis is transmited
Was a picture of CMV very easy to recognize
4) Biostat calc like OR and NNT
5) pharm very easy FA is enough but know all details
6) had 4 audio cardio qs. But mostly can recognize from question
7) physiology is up down graphs
8) do as many NBME pictures where the same and couple repeated qs
9) most of qs of coarse PAtHO
10) Neuro is also simple had like 5 qs nothing supper specific. Know pathways of tracts and cranial nerves. Had a pix to identify CN
11) time was good had like 15 left to go over marked qs
12) only 2 WTF qs
13) so overall it's not THAT scary as some ppl say.

Everything to answer can find in FA+ Uworld
Good luck to those who still to write. Ask anything I'll be glad to reply

Thanks for writing that up mmpetrov!

Did you use Kaplan HY videos at all? If so, did you find it helpful? (Or has anyone else used the Kaplan HY videos and could maybe provide some input??)

In terms of physio, does UW cover it adequately? I am pretty weak in physio and was thinking of spending 3 days doing kaplan physio again... but now I'm thinking of doing the Kaplan HY videos or spending 3 full days doing Rx questions.

Thanks!

Congrats on being done with it. Must be such a relief! Just a couple of queries. What about behavioral science? Were those annoying ethics and "most appropriate physician response" questions doable? I really have no clue how to improve on that as my common sense usually doesn't gets me the right answer.
Were there questions where you had to interpret the image to get the right answer? And if yes, were they hard?
Thanks man and best of luck!

@aspiringdoc - Hey bud! I got like 2 weeks to go as well. Saturated is an understatement Done with around 75% of Kaplan Qbank (82% aggregate so far.) You were right, it definitely is good. About those FEV1/FVC questions (eg. OL845) you really don't have to do much. Just count the number of boxes in the graph for FVC and FEV1 and calculate the percentage. There are around 5 boxes in total. That way you can calculate FEV1/FVC for both normal and diseased states (eg. 4/5=80%).

What else is up? Planning to take any NBMEs? I took NBME 6 a couple of days ago, found it pretty straightforward, scored 254. I've reserved NBME 15 for after I'm done with the qbank. All the best to you and all!

When I said that FA is more then enough I ment that you already know your basic knowledge very well!!!
So yes Kaplan physiology I think is a must if you don't have a solid base!!!
Especially Kaplan Cardio and Respirator I think is a must to do!!! Till you know it very good
For Renal and rest u mostly used BRS which I a good book so know it cold!!
Regarding the question ? Yes practice your physiology on all possible banks. Uworld Kaplan. Whatever.... Because you need to understand physiology and not memorize it
Good luck. How that helps

Yeah tell me about it ). Last 10 days I finished final review of FA and like 200-300 qs per day of uworld(2 run)
And last 3 days if exam I could make myself study. I couldn't TAKE it anymore . But I felt guilty for not doing anything. So I would study about 6 hours a day just reviewing weak areas and doing qs. And I did 2 NBME on last 3 days and went over them .
It's ok to feel like that and you not gonna get any smarter in those last days I think. Just keep going over hard stuff and your week points

Were there questions where you had to interpret the image to get the right answer? And if yes, were they hard?
Thanks man and best of luck!
Most of Qs images u use to confirm what u already thought in q stem!
I had one image where I had to say what Grade and Stage the tumor is
Q describing pneumonia after BM transplant soo CMV and a nice CMV image
Image of CML
Anemia with shistoxytes
2 X-rays

Oh behavioural. I hate that s*** and when I use common sense I also get it wrong )
Always end up with 2 answers. So my advise know the rules like who is emancipated and all that.. But the rest of qs there really now where to study and it's what is best to answer . I had like 5 qs on BS

It's ok to feel like that and you not gonna get any smarter in those last days I think. Just keep going over hard stuff and your week points
thanks for those encouraging words, may u get a very good score..

Hi DNA 105,
thanks for the fev1 explanation..will look over it again..m completing my uworld qbank, n reserving the last 1 week for FA and UWSA2..to tell u the truth havnt taken any nbme, bcz if i get a bad score on that, i wont be able to postpone my exam.. just dont feel like studying anymore n it makes me feel guilty,,best of luck to u too..

Aslamo Alikom

Hello My name is Hatem and I just noticed the thread, My exam will be in 15 Oct

and I will be joining you here to aid and benefit,

I've been studying for about 4 months and 6 weeks ago I took NBME 13 and my score was 300 which sucks and is about 175 in step 1 approximation .

and yesterday I took NBME form 7 and I got 470 which is about 214 in step 1

I was looking for 250, but I'm not sure if I can get it !

Do you think I can improve to get 240 at least in 10 days period ??

Honestly ..... No. Plus from my experience NBME 7 is also one of the easiest. NBME 13-15 newest and reflect exam more they also more difficult.
If u really wanna score that high. Move exam at least month ahead. At least.
Good luck

I did the nbme although I didn't finish FA as second read and some topics I answered them wrong because I didn't memorize them Like types of glomerulonephritis

and the weird part is that my scores on UWORLD is above average and some exams I get 80% as score

maybe if I worked real hard and focused on my weakness like the things that I didn't finish from FA and didn't memorize yet

maybe in 10 days I can raise my score 20 points right ???

=(

Well first of all your score will not change based on what I think second " I didn't memorize glomerulonephritis" means that you dont know it !! You HAVE to memorize it along with EVERYTHING else u see in FA! And by everything I mean EVERYTHING !!!
FORGET about what you get in uworld. It means nothing !!! Wanna know around what you gonna do NBME 15 and week after NBME 12 and your real score should be around that!

a 50 years old female with poorly controlled HTN comes to you with a follow-up exam. She says that she is concerned that she will develop dementia, Alzheimer type , like her mother did . She says " I don't want to end up like my mother at the end of her life " which of the following is the most appropriate response ?

1- " Fortunately medical research has lead to medical advanced about the treatment of dementia"

2- " I understand your concern lets talk more about your specific worries"

3- " I will give you literature about dementia that should answer any questions you may have"

4- I'd like to address your HTN first, since this is the most immediate threat to ur health"

5- " It's not helpful to focus on what could happen, It's probable that you will live to a very advanced age without any problems"

Enlighten me

my answer was 4, based on that she has a poorly controlled HTN and it was wrong

I'd say 2... because 4 is like dismissing the patient's concerns, which isn't good even if the intentions are well.

Answer is 2 - Although you would be treating her htn, she does have concerns about Alz. which needs to be addressed. Further we are not given with any other information that says her uncontrolled htn is a immediate threat - she is not presenting with any symptoms at the moment that could be life threatening

I finished uworld in exactly 1 month. I studied 12 hours a day with breaks only to eat. And hAlf day off on Saturday.
Then I got usmleRx and did that in a month
And then did Uworld again! And 5 days after I finish uworld I did exam!!
First 2 month I would do Kaplan+uworld+ FA annotation
Last 40 days reading only FA plus Qs!! I would read FA in 6 days. So in the end I read it about 5-6 times

Work on your weak areas as found on assessment tests.
Also, Get a subscription to Pathoma---> Make notes on FA.
Then Take an NBME (11,12,13 or 15)---> Based on the score decide to go for the test or postpone it.

If you decide to postpone the test then do USMLERx QBank along with another read of FA.
After that take an NBME to find out where you really stand.

I didn't have any dermo. I had one ECG. Easy with acute MI asking for best treatment.

Couple of blood images for anemia and leukaemia
And one for candida

Postpone even if you have to pay 800 bucks again. You dont want to just pass and get stuck later on. Better to score at least 220 even if it takes time (and money).

You're not alone. 10 days to go and I feel like going on a vacation to Mars. NBMEs have stalled since a month or so and I guess I've reached my plateau. Just wanna get it over with.

Anyone else gave their exam recently? Please do share your experiences.

Thanks mmpetrov. I just wanted to ask you one thing. Took NBME 15 yesterday and didn't like it AT ALL. Thought it had a few redundant questions and some ridiculously out of the world ones. Was the real thing any better? Thanks

The exact mechanism of Heparin induced osteoporosis is not known. So, in the real test it will most likely be a distractor rather than than the answer.
However, heparin could cause an increase in bone resorption by increasing the number of differentiated osteoclasts and by enhancing the activity of individual osteoclasts. This means that Heparin could reduce cancellous bone volume by either decreasing bone growth or by influencing the rate of bone remodeling (ie, increasing rates of bone resorption and/or decreasing rates of bone formation).
The important thing to remember is that heparin-induced osteoporosis is strictly related to the length of treatment (longer than 4 or 5 months) and the dosage (15,000 U or more daily).

Danazol is given for hereditary angioedema because it increases complement protein synthesis by the liver.

Hope this helps.
