Atherosclerotic stroke also called thrombotic stroke usually arise as a result of atherosclerosis usually at branching point of int carotid and middle cerebral arteries. This gives pale infarct due to liquefactive necrosis at the affected site usually periphery of the cortex. Mostly in thrombotic stroke reperfusion does not occur to produce haemorrhagic stroke as seen in embolism stroke where reperfusion normally follows the infraction.
In USMLE, “Any fool can know. The point is to understand.”
