First of all, stop sounding so worried. You WILL make it for sure. Secondly, explain your prep method. What have you done and how you did it and if you think that it works for you. You can try some alternative methods of preparation which can help you increase your score. Last but not the least, what are you looking forward to in terms of score and how much time are you willing to spare?

Hi Myco,

I can understand the situation you are going through but you have to realize that kaplan is too vast to cover from page to page and so is goljan. The trick is to first build a foundation of core facts. That can only be achieved by doing First Aid. I'll suggest to start doing your Kaplan videos on 2x speed and then revise the same from FA in the morning and do atleast 2 blocks of UW in the evening. You can also annotate key points from UW or Kaplan in your FA. It shouldn't take long because you've already covered the material twice. The key is to do two quick revisions from FA and UW and then assess your self. DO NOT hesitate to push your exam date in Jan or Feb if you feel the need to do so. Better late then never.

The gist of it all is that try to limit your self to the HY resources like FA, Pathoma and UW explanations. You should be in 225+ zone by covering these three. Many people have scored a lot better then this by sticking to these resources. In addition, try to do maximum revisions in a limited period of time. That will help consolidate the information better. If you still feel that you lack in a certain area or you want to score more then 235, then pick up further resources like Goljan and High Yield series. Hope that helps.

Help Thanx aslam

Found ur post helpful..I gave my step 1last sept n failed with just 188 ...since then m going thru PTSD ..can't gather myself to coop up again n don't even know procedure to apply again..also is there anyway I can know where I did wrong in exams..I got biased by hit n trial method as my prep wasn't at par so I was confused what m I doing..just guessing on main test..screw me !! Now wanna start again but I can hardly give 2-3 hours a day as m taking a full time language course this year...any suggestions how to plan with such limited time n resources..earlier I just did Kaplan videos n notes once except anatomy ..FA once ..completed UW 40% with avg score of 56-58% n sometimes in 60% to 80% while doing untimed. Thanx

I'm glad that you found my post helpful.

I'm sorry to learn that about your first attempt but what's done is done. Learn from that experience and try to make most of your time. Remember, strategy can make up for talent but talent can't make up for strategy. Have a plan that suits you and involves maximum amount revisions.

Personally, I'm not a fan of spreading your prep over a larger course of time eg a year, and spending minimum amount of time per day actually studying. I've made that mistake so I would advise you to focus on just one thing at the moment.

Secondly, like I said in my previous post, focus on building a foundation first. Start with Kaplan and Pathoma Videos and annotate them in FA. Do questions everyday so that your brain can think in the way the exam wants you to think. In whatever time you study per day, limit your self to these three resources. Try to do UW at least twice before taking an NBME to guage your performance.

Finally, never ever lose hope. Don't take exam in a rush if you don't feel confident about yourself. If you need any further help/info, you can contact me on skype. I'll be happy to do what ever is in my capacity.

Regards,
aslam

PS:
It is easier to stop thinking about how hard it will be and just do it. It is far harder to live unhappily than it is to do the things necessary to be happy. (someone's mood message)

I'm glad you found my post helpful and thanks for appreciation.

I don't the best method of doing UW but I can certainly tell you the way I do it. I haven't given my exam yet so there's no barometer to judge if it's the right way. So do take my advice with a pinch of salt.

I do 25 questions per day for my first read. I plan to increase it 50 and then 100 per day in my 2nd and 3rd read respectively. I just write the the educational objective of the question in the shortest possible form on a piece of paper which I hole punch and put in my First Aid which is in a binder. I do mention the question ID along with each exp so that I can revisit the question in case I feel the need to do so. It's a lot better then then scribbling those tiny ineligible notes on fa it self which make no sense when you read them again. It is a little time consuming at first but it would save you tons of time in your second read so it really makes up for the effort you put in.

Feel free to ask if there's any ambiguity in my post.

Hope that helps.
