Listening Has anyone taken USMLE SUCCESS ACADEMY

I was inquiring about the USMLE SUCCESS ACADEMY program and wanted to see if there are any students in this forum that have gone through the program. Please let me know your experience and if you felt it helped.

Thanks

Hey, kind of a newbie on here, I have only used the site really to just gather other peoples experiences, been on sdn forum and prep4usmle. I actually am currently taking the program right now. I am 4 weeks into it. Heres the gist of the program...Pretty much its a grueling 4 week course, which can be broadened over 8 - 12 weeks. honestly, the 4 week course is doable. He pretty much hits all the points from a high yield standpoint. I think this program would be great for a student who has a first aid book, with usmle world notes. The great thing is the lecturer on here, doctor P, pretty much has a no b.s. approach to it. He structures your day to day activities, when to take uworld, how to study them, and then how to interpret and utilize the nbme to the max. I am currently doing neuro right now, he approaches the subjects like this...

embryo, anatomy, physio, path, pharm, and imp high yield assciations with different disciplines. So it makes it alot easier. **one more thing...they practically email back any question you have or whatever prob within the hour or two.

i am really weak in behavioral and this guy knocked it out of the park for me. I am writing a long reply back because I am sure other people have similar inquiries into it. Let me be clear I am NOT gaining ANY MONETARY BENEFITS FOR MY POST ON HERE. i am a struggling IMG student who feels that if i give honest advice to someone i hope in the future when i am in need someone else can help me as well. Karma can work for you or against. I am actually taking a break reading forums and came across this, so hope I answered your question.

I am also supplementing pathoma and i believe goljan is overkill. First aid plus uworld plus usmlesuccess plus pathoma is a win win situation for me. I have had two other friends of mine utilize the same methods and have scored in mid 90's. Not upper...just being realistic. But hey, it works. Hope im not going to get ragged on by Team Goljan lol. take care

I completed the USMLE Success Academy about 3 months ago, took the STEP, and passed first time with a score that should get me the specialty I want. Prior to that, I did all the Kaplan videos and books, but was a little overwhelmed. Kaplan has tremendous info, but at times it felt like I was taking the whole course all over again with so much material. Added to that, I failed 2 NBME practice tests and got frustrated. That's when I got on line and found the USMLE Success Academy. The intro statement sounded like my situation (IMG, sucking on exam prep, etc.), so I signed up for the course and was impressed with what I got. Essentially, it is a very boiled down prep course with little fluff. Dr. Paul's explanations were to the point and made simple for dummies like me. To be honest, it took me longer than the 4 weeks to complete, but I just pushed the exam date back until I felt ready. One particular nice thing I found, Dr. Paul availed himself to answer questions as often as I wanted. Either by e-mail, or by setting up a phone appointment, he had no problems taking time out to work with me individually. All in all, if you want a bunch of colored charts and fancy power points, this is not the course for you. But, if like me, you want exam info and prep boiled down into a manageable program that gives you day to day milestones to keep you on track, this program is good for you. Good luck and good studying.

Thank you guys for your post.

Though i am a little skeptical in believing you guys' post because you guys are newbies to this forum, its hard to say if you work for the program and simply just created an account to reply to this post. But nevertheless thanks for taking out the time to reply

Your welcome, I think. But I can assure you I don't work for the program. One last comment, do lots of questions (UWorld, Kaplan, Princeton Reivew, etc.), I found that particularly helpful, especially with Micro and physio.

Default Decide for yourself

Stick with the true and the tried. I'm not going to name any particular test prep company or companies, but you make your own choice. If you read the above posts they all seem to be running a common thread of trying to praise this course and every once in a while criticizing a very trivial aspect of the course such as not getting back to the student in time. Use your own judgement people!! There seems to be a Step 1 prep course in every other garage these days

I already stated that I am a newbie. I am studying for my step 1 right now, so i had no other advice to give as far as "what worked for me". That will come after I take the actual exam this november. I am not working for them, i am taking the course. I am also repping pathoma as well. Utilize the uworld questions. if you dont believe me, then just go and check out the videos the program has put on youtube, he put over a 100 lectures, after checking out most of them, i then took the course. Hey i dont have 8 grand to shell out, but 2 grand seemed to be worth it for a course which in my honest opinion is legitimate. I am utilizing other sources as well, so i am not saying it is the ONLY thing to use. But it is legit. After I take my exam in november and get my results in dec, i will obviously attach a pic with my score and prove that the sources i used work. in the end, it is your gut instinct that dictates what you should use as far as prepping for the exam....i used mine, and im using this course.

So you are studying for your step 1 now. While it says on your profile that you are already done with step 1.

Altho usmle success academy is very helpful with their posts on this forum(for example they were willing to email helpful tips and offer free usmle review guides), These posts look fake to me lol. All newbies and as someone mentioned joined on the same day. I will tell you something about this forum. No one replies that fast to a post unless it has to do with asking a current test taker for tips based on their experience. Another thing is you'll never get that many people reply to one thread in a day, unless it has to do with someones exam experience

Bottom line: The posters are a fake! Please don't try to fool us. On the other hand, I don't know about the program but I'm sure it'll be helpful? Try it out and post your real experiences guys

Hey everyone

I received a PM from the director of the program himself regarding this. IT IS NOT FAKE. So i do apologize for being skeptical. And thanks for posting the screen shots.

Good luck with everyone on their STEP 1 preparation. At the end of the day, whatever source you choose to use, Success Academy, Kaplan, Pass, DIT, Falcon....etc etc we all have the same goal; to do well on the exam.

God Bless
