Question Why Vitamin D needed in dark-skinned people!

I can't figure it out, why to supplement hyperpigmented people with vitD if they are breast feeding ?? Is there some physio between prolactin n melanin?

I think u misunderstood.. we should supplement vit D to newborns esp african american after 6 months. its because black people need more uv light exposure to produce vit D. so they might go for a deficient state esp babies after 6 months. until 6 months enuf vit D is recieved from breast milk.

Breast milk contains ample quantities of most vitamins except Vitamin K and D. Children can compensate by producing vitamin D from light provided they have enough exposure. Black people are particularly vulnerable because melanin reduces UV light penetration.

Default I might be wrong.

But in our physio Kaplan pg 315 ... its mentioned that UV light evokes sun tanning which decreases penetration of UV light and hence decreasing the subsequent formation of D3...can that be the reason?
