Unhappy Don't know what to do

Hello everyone!!!

Hope someone could help me!

Im studying for step1 for 10 months. First i did the kaplan live lectures, then spend abput 4- 5 months reviewing the kaplan books and summarizing.
Then, complemented FA with my kaplan notes, did kaplan qbank--> Started doing it like wrong, because i was untimed and just like a learning tool, so i finish all the qs and got 65%.

I'm doing Uworld, and this time im doing it right, timed and unused questions, for about a month, 53% overall.

Took the NBME 7, two months ago, and got a really bad score of 300. I'm planning to take it again later on, coz that day i was sick (flu).

I read FA the second time.

Last week, Took the UWself-assessment test 1 and got 410 (195), so i was told that it overshoots 10 points. So now im working on my weak areas with FA and UW qbank.

Please, i really want to know what to do in order to improve my studies. Im willing to do anything, because im looking forward to take the test the sooner the better, im hoping to do it like in 2 months or so.

HEEEEELPPPPPP!!!!!!

Just stick with FA +uworld.....after doing them 2 times give another NBME.if u r still not getting decent score then do DIT and rx with focus on ur weak areas..

Hi MMSA,

Based on having studied for 10 months already and the fact that you are still hovering around the 195 mark, there are a couple things you might consider in order to better your score.

Now, I realize you have already used kaplan extensively, FA extensively, and have used UW, yet still scored an NBME of 195 (sidenote: it doesn't necessarily overshoot by 10, it gauges your score within 10 points +/-, not just +), you should consider determining your weakest areas and perhaps purchasing some more detailed subject-specific guides depending on what areas you need improving.

For example, if biochemistry is a weakness, figure out what biochem books are really good and more detailed (i.e.. BRS series as an example), and go through them more thoroughly. Often times doing this will help to round out your understanding which can significantly boost your score. I only suggest this because simply going through FA and UW again, which you've already done, isn't going to cut it because, well, you've already been down that road. A more thorough book(s) can make a big difference for some students, and while this may take a few months, you've already dedicated 10 months, so what is another few months. Use UW questions alongside this strategy as a way to put the info into action.

After going through a more thorough book for your weaknesses, go back and take an NBME and see if you did in fact pull up your weakness. If you took the time to really REALLY master your weaker areas in this thorough manner, I believe you will definitely see a nice boost in your score.

Hopefully this helps, I know it is not an 'easy fix', but sometimes you have to push really hard and go above-and-beyond in order to see the results you want.

Good luck!

Dr. Paul

hi mmsa..
jus finish the uworld 1st run as soon as possible n then start giving assessment exams. 2nd run of uworld is a must too. FA will only try to solidify ur memory based points but it doesnt help with conceptual stuff very much. so, uworld explanations r way better than FA for a conceptual understanding of the stuff.
