Unhappy Failed Step 1 three times!

Hi guys, I am desperate for some advice as I failed the board for the 3rd time scoring 184. Has anyone been in my position before or do you know anyone who took it multiple times and was able to get a residency anywhere at all in U.S? I am forcing myself to accept the fact that med. school is over for me but this is the hardest thing to do! I would really appreciate if you share your insight on wether I must stop now and go for PA school perhaps?
Thank you,
P.S I went to Ross (Caribbean)

Do not give up and dont be in a hurry to give the exams. Dont give the exam until you have scored well in NBME .

Hi farnoosh,

The good thing is that you are close to a passing score, obviously the bad thing is the three attempts.. I wouldn't give up, there are students with similar histories who have successfully matched, you just have a much tougher trail ahead of you. Develop a very good study plan and give yourself a few months to tackle everything thoroughly. When you start rotations in the US, you need to work harder than everyone else... You MUST standout in order to gain quality LOR's! You should do your best to build relationships with people who can vouch for your work ethic and your strong clinical presence, as this can help you overcome the bad test history.

You can make it, you just need to work really hard and have a plan to make yourself standout for the remainder of your med school years.

Best of luck!

Dr. Paul

Thank you all for supporting messages! At this point I am considering to take the board one last time but I have absolutely no idea how to study different this time. Apparently, I am doing something wrong here after 3 failure. I always have to leave 3-4 Q on each block bx I ran out of time and no matter how hard I try I still have the same problem.
I appreciate If you guys give me any tips that might help me to study more efficient this time!
Thank you again

Hi farnoosh,

I completely understand your frustration... working hard to prepare for the step 1 yet falling short is one of the most frustrating times in a medical student's career. The good news is that you are probably on the right track and need just a little bit of guidance.

I created 2 short free ebooks that I believe will do you a lot of good, they will address both of the problems you are currently facing: Not knowing how to study differently and test-taking skills. These short guides will give you a foolproof strategy that you can put into action immediately in order to take the right steps to passing next time, and will teach you how to ensure you actually have time left at the end of each block of questions, instead of having to leave a few questions blank each time.

If you would like to download them, they are free, and you can download each individually via the links below:

About the Success Strategy Guide... this is a very intense strategy, that will require a lot of work. If you are willing to put in the effort, you will see outstanding results (this is the exact strategy we use with our students inside The Academy - and we've had great results)

Book #1: Success Strategy Guide - Download HERE

Book #2: Test-taking Skills - Download HERE

I hope you will find that these guides help you overcome your hurdles and take the appropriate steps towards a great score your next time around.

All the best!

Dr. Paul
