USMLE Scores very upset with low score on step 1

Hello everyone,
I am hoping for someone to guide me here. I got my score for step1 yesterday as 197 which is very upsetting for me coz I did put efforts. and now I feel completely clueless.
I need advice on what to do next. I would be very thankful if anyone can guide me that what should I do next ?
-IMG with no USCE / Observership/ externship/ research yet.
-going to appear for CS soon. / or should I just drop out?
-I wanted to go on pediatric since always. / possible anymore?
-How good I should be doing in step 2 in order to get some spot?
- what can I do to boost my application?

I am really hoping for some guidance here on this forum
Thankyou.

Merida,
Hey, sorry to hear that you couldn't get your desired target. No one can guarantee anyone of anything in this journey but your only future course of action should be to score stellar in CK, Step 3 and gain plenty of USCE and publications if you can. By plenty, I mean 6 months or more. That should give you an edge over many because you'll make plenty of contacts and then the programs you do your observerships at may just give you a chance themselves. This is just my take and if i were you, I'd consult my seniors, forum veterans and colleagues too.

Plus, I'd suggest you keep yourself posted with ways to self-assess before appearing for the actual exam.

All the best!

hey Insomnaic,
thanks alot for replying and for your advises.
Yes, I am looking forward to start CK preparation ASAP. and in the mean time I am talking to many colleagues as well.

One more question I have if anyone who reads this ... kindly reply.
-Is it true that California state literally got no IMGs at all and they dont have any IMG friendly programs?

Thanks once again.

You're welcome.

As far as I know, California board is not conducive to IMGs. It needs your School of Medicine to be recognized with their organization separately . That only makes you eligible to sit for their exam. They usually do not sponsor a Visa so you'd have to be a GC holder or a national to be considered if it comes to that.
