Question OLD IMG...Where to Start

Hello All,

I am a very old IMG (>15 years after graduation). Hmmmm....I am old but I am determined to step in and try. Its been years and I have no idea where to start. A lot has happened and I completely lost touch with medicine. I am ready to start but confused if I need to go back to text books first. What books I should study? Can someone help me?

Thanks

It might be a good idea to start with a basics textbook which you are already familiar with like Robbins since Path is 90% of Step 1.
Once you know Robbins you are golden. Moreover, it will help you for for Step 2 as well.
For other subjects BRS Physiology, MMRS for Micro, Lippincott's Pharmacology, High-Yield Neuroanatomy, Kaplan Molecular Biology & Genetics, Kaplan Behavioral and Kaplan or RR Biochem should be enough. Also, must know Biostats cold.

Read this thread for more ideas.

Thanks Novobiocin,

Thanks for giving me a starting point. I have been through multiple things during those years. I am ready to start from very beginning. I do not have any material from past now. I will be buying books and review material. Is amazon is good enough or you have more suggestion for material. What about anatomy? (I always hated this subject )

Novobiocin is a respected member of this forum and we highly appreciate your responses ....but robbins for a usmle exam is way too much ... i mean you would require an year to complete it and still will feel lost at the end .... start with the Gold standard ones i.e. goljan ( if you have got time ) and pathoma videos is the way to go

as you are an old img you would not like to skip any kaplan videos ,go through them even for physiology though you would be following the BRS ....only skip the pathology ones for which you will be substituting them with pathoma ....and nailing ethics with conrad fischer ethics book and 100 cases .... otherwise the books recommended by novobiocin is on the target ....also you want to do the pharma from kaplan as well and kaplan biochem is very good...

I will recommend kaplan lecture notes with associated videos
Watch the video lectures then go to lecture notes
Use larger textbooks for those topics which are harder to understand and need in depth review
Biochemistry,physiology,pathology ...
thats the order which worked well for me

Thanks for the support. Here is found a list for books from another thread. I have not booked exam date as of now. Its been a long time, so I may take time especially for step 1. Do you recommend these books?

Rapid Review Pathology by Goljan or BRS pathology
BRS Physiology
Clinical Microbiology Made ridiculously simple
Basic Immunology
Lippincott's Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology
High Yield Neuroanatomy
Rapid Review: Biochemistry
High Yield Behavioral Science
High Yield Biostatistics
High Yield Embryology

Thanks again for all the help I am getting.
