Smile Which is closer to Exam, FA Q&A or UW

Hi guys,
I think that you could explain me something more about this big doubt.
I'm preparing step 1 on FA, FA Q&A and UW. I graduated in 2013 in Europe, So my pathology is quite good while biochemistry and microbiology are a disaster.

Doing FA Q&A and UW I've found a deep difference in term of question presentation. While uw is more logical and complicated (i have to think at least 30 sec per question in order to figure out the correct answer), fa qa is more "knowledge" (if u know the answer u choose it immediately).

My question is: is the real exam more closer to uw or to fa qa? And (this is what I'm really looking for) are the real qs more difficult than the uw? Did someone find some exactly uw qs in the exam?

I'm sorry for my bad english!
Thank you guys!

Hi there,

They are both effective tools, as you know. The FA Q&A is testing you on very basic information, which is obviously essential for you to know - but, and this is a big BUT - your real exam answers are not this easy!

The UW questions as you pointed out require more thinking, and this is what your real exam will be like. So you can use the FA Q&A to ensure you have the basics down, because you need to know the basics very well if you are going to use that knowledge to figure out the tricker questions.

NBME exams are actual USMLE questions that are currently in circulation, and the NBME is the most important tool you have in helping to predict the outcome of your Step 1 score. You won't get answer feedback (ie. they won't give you the correct answers), but they will tell you where you are strong/weak/avg, and you can use this feedback to strengthen your weaknesses and boost your knowledge and score.

Best of luck.

If you have any questions about your USMLE preparation please feel free to send me a PM, I have dealt with many students from overseas who were preparing for the Step 1, so I know what you are up against.

Good luck.

Dr. Paul
