Form 7 and 12 = 470 both Exam Nov 17

Need advice about Step 1, IMG aiming for ~225 in my Step 1 in 3 weeks

USWA 1 =219
USWA 2= 228
NBME 7= 470 (217)
NBME 12= 470 (217)

Took the USLME site forms average 78%

Are my scores predictive of getting close to 225

I would rather err on the side of caution. So if you're aiming for a 225, study a bit more on your weaker areas. You want your NBME to predict a score of 230-235 before you take your exam. That way, on a bad day, you will land on 225 and on a good day, you will land on 245.

Am I saying your score right now means you cant get 225? no. Most people from my school who took the NBME found their score to reside within +/- 10pts of the last projected NBME score that being said, I would want the 225 to fall on the lower end of that +/- 10 pts.

Excellent point.

One comment for my prior NBME forms is that I haven't had the chance to revised yet my notes from incorrect/correct questions in UWORLD/KAPLAN banks. I plan to finish such review in the next week and take another NBME form next Friday or Saturday. My Kaplan and Uworld cummulatives are 65 and 60% respectively (only 300 questions left to finish UWorld).

Should I take the Form 15 next? I would like to take at least one more Form NBME prior the exam, but I am worry Form 15 will bring my confidence down since people say it is difficult. Which other Form I should try instead of 15?

My weakest area were Gross Anatomy and Embryology, and General Pathology.

Should I focus in revising those contents again Med Essential or Kaplan Lectures, and/or UWorld questions for at least 2 hr per day? I also plan to do at least 2-3 blocks/day UWorld / Kaplan banks (I ordered both). I am also lessening to Goljan in my car every time I drive.

I havent done NBME 15, but regardless of how hard it is, I think you should take it. If after you take it you dont feel ready, then postpone your exam. Better to get a harsh wake up call before you take your exam, than just plunge into the exam, mess up and then regret it.

As for your weak subjects, I would focus a lot more on pathology. Your knowledge of Anatomy and embryo that is most high yield is the one that is associated with other disciplines. If you are missing straight recall anatomy/embryo questions, thats less of a worry. For instance, this one girl from my school who got a 243 told me of a question she got which was a picture of a leg and an arrow pointing at a muscle and the question literally asking "what muscle is this?" If you get that wrong, then whatever that's not of major concern. But if you are getting the interdisciplinary anatomy/embryo questions wrong...then you have a problem (i.e. Q = Craniopharyngioma is derived from which embryological structure?... A= Rathke's pouch).

So my suggestion is go over your weaknesses, spend the most time on Pathology because that is the biggest aspect of your exam. For anatomy and Embryo, just take a crash course on the high yield aspects...which means the aspects that are related to pathology.

As for review material to use, I personally use Kaplan lecture notes + videos, but those are very time consuming and if you dont have the time its not worth it. For Path I used the pathoma videos + book, but once again, time consuming. So what you use is really up to you and how u learn best. To be honest, if your core is down, you can just hit questions non stop and read all the explanations and that should take you where you want to be.

Some people also suggest DIT if you have 15 days, so thats something to think about. Good luck, and I hope to see you posting here in the next 2 months telling us how you got a 245

I took 15 about 3 weeks ago; i got a 254 on it...honestly it wasnt that hard, nowhere near as hard as people were making it out to be. There are some wierd and tricky questions, but you can figure them out with a little bit of thinking. I have heard 12 is hard though, and i have to take 12 now...
