Question Why should i take NBME?

HI...about 2 months ago i took NBME 6 as my first simulated exam and the result was very very bad..i extended my exam...and kept studying now my eligibility ends in 20 days..and i will take step 1 in 2 weeks..but actually i cant feel well to take another SA or NBME u know just because if i take a bad score in NBME i will just lose more self confidence...so no benefit while i cant postpone my exam any more...and the way i want to go is just reading with calm mind in remain time....
am i making a mistake?

need your advice seriously..no more time i have
thanks

Failing the exam is quite disastrous. So if I were you I need to make sure that I will pass before taking it and the only way to do that is by doing an NBME.

If NBME says you will fail then you forgo your current eligibility period and pay the fees again and work hard for a later eligibility period.

Unfortunately that is what Sabio means. The heartache that comes with failing is 2x worst than spending a couple of more hundred dollars in postponing and re-registering for the exam.

Trust me i know how you feel. I have been there. NBME can be a wreck on confidence. When i did poorly on my NBME i couldn't study for a whole week. But i had to pick myself and keep going. Because those test tend to guage where you are, it is ideal to take them and know if you have a chance of passing. There is hardly any magic that would work for one on exam day after failing the uswa and nbmes. So try to foster the courage and just take it, see it like giving 4 blocks of questions and judge where you are. At the end of the day its all about CONFIDENCE and LUCK on exam day, but taking an NBME might make that luck work in your favor rather than based on a very low percent confidence interval.

If it makes you feel any better I am also in the same position as you. I didn't do well in my first nbme which was like 2 months back and I have to take the exam in 20 days as well but I am planning to take at least 2 nbmes before I sit for the exam.
Why? Because I am confident enough now that after studying so much I will be able to do well and even if I score low then that would mean that the fault is not in my knowledge but my test taking skills which would need brushing up by doing more practice (if time permits).

I am going to tell you the same that trust your studying and just take one just to see where you are at. If you are confident to sit for the exam you should be confident for the nbmes as well
Don't stress about it- you will be fine!

Default I agree with Violet

Well said Violet.

We are all in the same boat. There is nothing like going into the exam with confidence, and there is nothing like going into it with FEAR. The people who score well on NBME, just have an extra advantage of confidence boost, because they know they have done well on NBMEs and they will do well or at least PASS the exam. For others, when you have nothing going for you, No NBMEs or UW to show for it, there is a sense of FEAR and WHAT if? So that is the only problem

But if you feel you have enough confidence on your prep and you are ready to tackle this beast without an NBME, then go for it though i wouldn't advice that. I also plan on taking at least 2 more NBMEs, with USWA and all the assessments i can get before i take the exam. So good luck....

And i hope in a couple of months or weeks we all come back and laugh about this and post our success stories.

NEVER LOSE HOPE, there are more people going through what you are going through than you think. Don't let the constant flood of 250s+ on these threads break your focus. Though i would love to get those high scores, but i know with the amount of work i have put it, i would gladly take a sub-250 OR sub-220 lol and run happily with it.

You are so right!
I am just sick of studying for this thing and its driven me to the point where I just want to get over with it. So even if I pass right on the dot I'll be ok with it. Anyways I wish you all the best

Yes I would suggest that you go through your readings again and then take the nbme when you are fresh & stress free. All the best!
