My advice would be to browse this site for "STEP 1 EXPERIENCES", you can learn alot from those folks. So spend some time and do a little research. If i start telling you all that i know, it will be a whole essay. But a little few hours dedicated to it would help.

In summry:
1- Kaplan Notes/Videos = [good, refreshing ones memory]
2- Goljian or Pathoma = [ emphasis on pathology]
3- First AID= [ Its like the bible of USMLE, w/ most of the highest yield info]
4- Question bank, USMLEWORLD, Kaplan, USMLErx = [Practicing questions]
5- NBME = [ Exam simulation, let you know how prepared you are]
EXTRA: DIT [ online training USMLE pre program, some highely recommend it]

Above is a summary of most the material you will most likely utilize during your prep. Most likely in the order given, with repetition of ["3" and "4"). You study the basics through Kaplan videos, study first aid, then do alot of questions, after doing alot of questions, you then take an NBME or USWA(qbank that comes with usmleworld) to see where you are on your readiness for the real exam.

Good luck.

No one can predict that for you..as it all depends on how well you know your basic sciences from med school ..Most of them take 6 to 8months time to prepare for step 1..some of them manage to do it in 3 to 5 months too.
