USMLE NEWS BULLETIN

The Step 1 Committee is scheduled to review the minimum passing score for the USMLE Step 1 examination at its meeting on December 9-10, 2013.
If the Committee determines that a change to the minimum passing score is appropriate, the new recommended minimum passing score will become effective for all examinees who take a Step 1 examination on or after January 1, 2014. The decision of the Step 1 Committee will be posted at the USMLE website.

This really should not affect any of us for a number of reasons
1) we are not looking to "just pass". If anything, you dont want to just pass. Some say they'd rather fail and retake it than barely pass.
2) programs see your three digit score, not what the passing score that year was. So lets say you get a 200, you pass (and would have passed before as well). For applying to a program, it makes no difference at all. They just see what score you have.

Everyone has their own point of view. But yeah it's makes a difference psychologically to me. every time the more passing average of exam is, the more challenging it gets for an average student like me.

I agree to Val. No one wants to just pass in this exam. They are I think actually doing those a favor who would have gotten in 180s and that would have been almost an end to their career. This would at least give them another chance.
