Depending on what your going for and visa status and a bunch of other things, a 230 is NOT bad AT ALL!!

What were ur NBMEs and when did you take them? Can you please explain a little about what you found difficult? I have a week to my exam and trying toget another run of FA in 5 days and do NBME 15 tomorrow. Any suggestions?

Hello,

I got my score today.

In fact I suspect that there might be something wrong in my score.

I got high performance in a lot of subjects and average performance in most of subjects but my score was 215!!!

Please see the image I added for my performance and please try to explain for me how I got 215 only?

thanks

i found anatomy very difficult but surprisingly got better score... my behavioural sciences questions were all ethics n nothing from other parts of the book like defence mechanisms, dsm 4 etc... exam is just like nbmes i mean the standard but more wtf questions... after the exam i thought i wouldnt cross 220 mark... sleep well the nyt before the exam, thts the big mistake i did n couldnt focus at all during the exam... my first 2 blocks were a mess as i couldnt focus... pharma n path were relatively easy..
genetics was tougher but i guess those were experimental ones as i scored well on genetics.. my report shows only behaviour sciences as "below he borderline"...

First off FIRST AID IS PERFECT FOR PHARMA AND MICRO ( last i read their kaplans was almost 4 months before my exam so i tell from my experience and i had star in both of them )
Secondly pathoma is like the new replacement of goljan for pathology for step 1 , i just did pathoma and uworld for pathology and skimmed the goljan lectures and i my best performance with a star was in pathology (in both nbmes i gave and in real exam)
Now regarding anatomy the first aid is deficient , i would highly recommend atleast going through kaplan or high yield once if you can
the viral/bacterial resistance mechanisms etc are the only chapter you should do from the micro kaplan book (rest is covered perfectly in FIRST AID)
Done right you can easily cross 240+ with these sources , uworld is probably the best of these sources to tune your mind for the exam

Thank you.

Default Question for those who took step 1 already!!

Hey guys!!

My exam is in a week and I was thinking of spending 1/2 day going over the past NBMEs (7,11,12,13,15). Obviously this will be a very quick review, it's mainly to go over my wrong answers and review the test overall because I actually didn't really when I took the test.

Also, I took 7,11,12 like 4+ months ago! I don't even remember those questions!

Anyways, based on the actual step - do u think it'd be worth going over the NBME questions again? Or rather doing like 4 blocks of UW would be better?

I think pathology was the problem since u didn't do well in it and it takes bulk of the exams more like renal pathology. And bsc.

1) I gave exam at end of october and it was very different from the nbmes and uworld/kaplan qbank. There were alot of WTF questions especially from Anatomy and biochem & soooo many images , CTs & alot of images even from micro and what not . Micro was very tough , keeping in consideration that i didnt even missed a single question in both nbmes from micro , it gave me a tough time. I literally panicked by the end of 3rd block ( i wasnt able to sleep properly before my exam night so it could be one of the reasons of difficulty staying calm).
As of my preparation i studied from kaplans , pathoma for pathology , FA , uworld and kaplan qbanks complete.
I did nbme 13 (242)
and nbme 15 (257)
8 and 6 days before exams respectively.
I felt confident about my prep but the exam was very different from the kind of questions i expected. Now the thoughts of results are scaring me

2) I basically did first lectures/read of kaplan and then did second read with subjectwise uworld using it as a learning tool and after i was done with the second read i did kaplan qbank and ditched patho of kaplan and went through PATHOMA videos twice and its book (its awesome). Also Both of these qbanks i first did offline. After that i opened First Aid and everything made sense i even knew lines which were used as questions in the qbanks and i loved reading First Aid . Then my most focus stayed on first AID while i did online uworld almost more then half with cumulative of around 87% and before i knew it my exam date was approaching so i stopped uworld and went through FIRST AID and gave nbme 13 , i was very panicked doing it and i thought i mustve got 210 score in it but ended up with 590 (242) score in it. Then i thought to give another NBME and gave NBME 15 2 days later and ended up with a prediction of 650 (257). I was confused with two differing score so i thought wth lets just give the exam n so i went through FIRST AID once more in 5 days and gave the exam . It was so different. The first and last block was sooo tough. Others were relatively easy but there were alot of questions i didnt studied in first aid or Kaplan. Especially wierd anatomy questions and CTs. I m badly scared now

As for the last 2 weeks i just did uworld revision in second last week with one go of FA and gave NBMEs , then in the last week barely skimmed FA , no kaplan nothing else
Pls can you tell us what style and type of knowledge from anatomy the questions were seeking! I mean not the question itself but how do we arm ourselves for the anatomy questions? Any advice please? Thanks!

I did like 200 questions from RX but found it way too easy and straight forward. The real exam is nothing like that. But it is very good to use at the start of preparation of this exam to consolidate topics , but i dont recomment to use it in last 3 months of preparation

The most important thing to do in last week is to not read anything you havent read before , i-e dont mess with new concepts and topics. Just revising First Aid once properly would be the best option in my opinion. I myself did that

First off never ever use qbanks to asses yourself or expect particular score from your performance in them , the first time i did uworld i was doing almost every second question wrong. Thats the task of NBMEs not the qbanks. Think of qbank as a book, and what you have to do is make sure to learn the explanations and think of that topic in the way it was tested . Revising explanations of qbanks is very very very important, i used to revise the concepts tested in uworld again n again by the small notes or one liner annotations i made. What it does is that it trains your brain to think of that topic in the form it was tested , and whenever you gets a question from that topic you dont have to remind yourself the book pages etc , it just clicks .
BOTTOMLINE IS USE YOUR QBANKS AS A LEARNING TOOL , DONT UNDERESTIMATE THEIR IMPORTANCE , THEY ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOUR KAPLAN OR FIRST AID , ONLY IF YOU LEARN FROM QBANKS PROPERLY YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO THINK LIKE THE WAY THEY EXPECT YOU TO THINK AND READING FIRST AID WOULD BE EASIER AND WOULD MAKE MUCH MUCH MORE SENSE INSTEAD OF JUST BLIND READING. also make notes and annotate your first aid/pathoma etc
