Question Is nbme 15 absolutely necessary to take

Is nbme 15 the most predictive of your score. I scored in the 240s and 250s on my last 4 nbmes(6 7 12 13). I dont want it to mess with my head in case the score on 15 dips. Thoughts?

Whether or not to take NBME 15 should be decided based on 1 simple question:

Can you extend your exam? If you can, then take NBME 15 and see where you stand and if you arent ready, postpone it. If you cant extend your exam, then you dont have to take it if you don't want because there is nothing much you can do about it, but I would still suggest you take it because exposure to as many questions as possible is always a good thing.

When you feel ready to take it. It all depends on your plans. If you are taking it to find out whether or not you should postpone, then make sure you take it at least 9 days before your exam, at the very latest. The reason I say this is because if you try to reschedule your exam within a week of the exam date, you get charged extra as opposed to the $50 if you do it earlier than 1 week.

If you can't change your exam, then just take it when you feel ready, but I would still suggest to have at least a week between your final NBME and your actual exam. This gives you time to go over your weak areas 1 more time in a last ditch effort to improve your score.

Best of luck to you.

I think you scored very well in your previous NBMEs you should feel confident even if you score a little low in NBME 15. If you think a low score could mess with your head then you dont need to do it in my opinion since you already performed really well. But i am sure you will score really well in NBME 15

i Scored
NBME 13 = 242 8 days before exam
NBME 15 = 257 6 days before exam

Real Exam = 258

To be honest my exam day went absolute crappy , i was marking almost every second or third question , alot of wtf questions , slides , cts , xrays and whole lot of disappointment. I felt very crappy after the exam. I had confidence in my prep but i felt i ****ed it up in the exam . I thought i was going to end up with something in 230's . But when i saw the score report i couldnt believe my eyes , A quick tip to you , that even if you feel during exam that it is tooooo hard , dont worry . You'll end up around your NBME's

My exam is coming up on Dec 13th (after a couple of posponements due to me wanting to work on some weak subjects); i took NBME 15 more than a month ago and got 254. I took NBME 12 2 weeks back and got 250. I missed the same amount of questions on both exams. I wish there was an online copy of NBME 15; it would be nice to go over the questions again. I think NBME 15 is doable (you can search on the other usmle forum and see if you feel comfortable with the questions--i wont post any here due to copyright violations and what not)...honestly its not that bad. I hope my real exam is like that!

Hey thanks alot
I would advise you to just go ahead and give the NBME 15 , its honestly not that tough. Just be confident and believe in yourself and dont panic while doing it , keep your nerves in control . I relied on those sources too (including few kaplan books) and everything turned out fine.Your NBME score will tell you if you are ready for the exam or not. Do let us know and post your performance here and we shall surely guide you accordingly

i found the stems sort of long in all the recent NBMEs as well; its mildly annoying lol. Yeah everyone made NBME 15 out to be so scary, but its not...at least i didnt think so.

Yeah i agree with the longer stem thing . But i guess thats the way the recent exams are going to be structured now so its a better training to familiarize with this pattern

The free 138 also has some pretty long stems as well.

Hey guys i have some questions about nbme 15 too...i took it few days back n scored really bad in it...i took it without doing pharma from uworld or anywhere...i hadnt done neuro also before i started it...im confused now...though i delayed my exam for good...but now i dont know how to study where to start from n what to do...

i had done kaplan physio alot for a previous postgrad exam so i didnt do it again...same for neuro n gross anatomy...even about patho im confident...its pharma n biochem which screw me...n all the other subjects like embryo, histo, genetics, biostatistics etc r very irritating..

im thinking to do only uworld now...once or twice...and should i take nbme 15 again after im done or do u suggest any other nbme?...tbh i also found form 15 easier...atleast easier than uwold...thing is i just couldnt recall much of the stuff...maybe i havent practiced uworld alot

help needed...what plan should i follow?

I think best thing for you would be to keep reviewing those subjects you are really weak in from atleast some good review material that you are comfortable with and keep doing uworld at the same time. Uworld is vital ! You shouldnt have given the NBME15 without completing it properly first. But you should not rely on it completely because although its very vital and excellent for concepts but there are few gaps left in your prep which a review source would fill in nicely. Best of luck. Make sure you dont step onto another NBME without proper preparation ,also when you feel satisfied with your prep give another new NBME. Repeating NBME is never recommended

I understand how you feel , but you made the right decision. Giving the exam without proper preparation wasnt a good idea . Make good use of your time Best of luck

Took it two days ago. I made 7 ridiculous mistakes. Got only a 235. Absolutely gutted. I dropped 20 points from NBME 12. I dont think I can even postpone now.

I know the answers to those 7 q. It was just me being really careless . The rest I will just look atthem and let you know At this point I just want more than a 230. My NBMEs are so erratic.

dont worry, i am sure you will do fine . My UWSAs were at least 20 points lower than my NBMEs. When i went through them, i realize i made some really dumb mistakes, so now i can correct those and be ready.
