Smile My review of Becker Step 1 live course

I just finished the Becker live course in Dallas, Oct-Nov 2013.

Overall, I thought it was excellent with a few exceptions. The newly written books were great. Full color, with lots of helpful illustrations and pictures. The only bad book, and it was really bad, was the pharmacology book.

Physiology - Taught by Robert Dunn. Very solid. Renal was a little weak. I watched Kudrath's old renal videos from 2004 to supplement my learning.

Microbiology and Immunology - Taught by Mary Ruebush. Amazing teacher. I never really grasped immuno before, but now it's one of my strongest subjects. The micro and immuno book is the best I have ever read on these two subjects.

Neuroanatomy - Taught by Jack Wilson. Solid. Teacher was a little dry, but overall the material was conveyed well.

Genetics - Taught by Elizabeth Bhoj. This was a one day course. She did a good job, especially in explaining Hardy-Weinberg.

Gross Anatomy - Taught by Craig Goodmurphy. A little shaky. Only had 3 days assigned for it, so he had to rush to get through the material. I was not satisfied with this. Also he didn't integrate the material that well.

Biochemistry - Taught by Adam Seegmiller. He did a really good job. Made this dry subject as interesting as it could be. Pointed out all the high yield steps in the pathways.

Pharmacology - Taught by Terriann Crisp. This was the one subject I felt was not taught well. Most of my classmates agreed. Also, the book for it was too dense. Becker must improve on this. I was expecting Dr. Lionel Raymon to teach this and was very disappointed he didn't.

Pathology - Taught by Edward Goljan. Not much more to say about this legendary teacher. It was an experience, to say the least. He did an awesome job. I felt Goljan was like "an oyster, dropping pearls". We got a copy of his latest RR Pathology and a full color 350 page book of high yield slides he made from the book. He lectured to these slides. The integration he did with path and all the other subjects was excellent. I had decided on taking the Becker course because of Goljan and he was worth it.

Behavioral - Taught by Steven Daugherty. He did an excellent job. I think he should win an oscar for his acting because it was hilarious how he would kind of act out all the various disorders. Definitely kept me glued to my seat and laughing most of the time.

Overall, I would recommend Becker's course. As a bonus, Becker also threw in Dr. Raymon's integrated cases, but those are done online live next month. If Becker had a satisfactory anatomy and pharmacology component, I would give the course perfect ratings. As is, I would say it is an 8 out of 10.

I didn't want to multiply the threads, who else has tried Becker?
They seem to be a bit cheaper than Kaplan, so I am thinking between them
Any suggestions?
