Exam-Results December 25th, 2013; Step 1 Exam Results Thread

Hi everybody! I took my exam Dec 2nd and was hoping to get it today, but I guess I have one more week to wait, so thought I'd start this thread. I called yesterday to ECFMG and they told me results are released during the holidays, so fingers crossed!
I don't know what to expect, there were some easy questions but almost run out of time during some of the blocks, just can't wait to know my score.

I hope you're right, but I'm seriously not expecting anything to be released on Christmas.

My test was interesting. I'm just hoping my score turns out around my NBME average...

In another thread from last year when the Wednesday fell on a Dec., 26th, one apparently called ecfmg and they said they would send out results on that day. Let's keep the hope up for salvation this Christmas

Wow!!! I'm sooooo stressed! I need this wait to be over- took it the 3 rd and I honestly don't know what to think...I left the test discouraged because the last block was the hardest for me! I really hope I passed with a decent score

Best of luck to the people getting their exam scores this week. Praying for all of you to do well. I still got 3 weeks of misery to go before I get my exam score, so I hope to hear good news from all of you to give people like me hope!

The ECFMG might be open, but I doubt the NBME (which actually grades and sends the scores) will be.

Regardless, I'll be crazy nervous all next week... haha!

Has anyone have their print schedule permit link disappear from the IWA ECFMG webpage? I still have mine but shows error when I click!

Of course it shows an error... you won't be able to reprint it because they have a record of you already taking your exam!

Yes, I know. But I was reading other posts that says that when you are close to get your results that link is gone. Other people say that if you are still in your eligibility period and can't see that link it means you pass!
Aaahhhh just want to know my score!

if the link is still there, you click it and it says error, then its okay. Its when the link is totally gone, then your result would be coming soon. I just took my exam last Friday and my permit link is still there, and when i click it it says error, student has already taken the exam, etc, etc.

Is it true that some questions are not considered for the final score?

As far as I know yes. As far as I understand they include some test questions which might come up in later exams if the meet certain criteria.

Yes. I believe up to 10% of any exam is experimental questions, and these are not counted towards your score.

Nice! Can i speculate that difficult questions are the "experimental" ones or even an easy question could be experimental?

It would be most likely they give you experimental questions of every difficulty.

Easy is relative, though. What's easy for one might not be so easy for another!

I had a few questions that I really hope were experimental, but I wasn't really able to tell while I was taking the exam!

I just want this stupid score.

I don't think that easy means stupid. My opinion is that an "easy question", regardless the difficult itself, is a direct question where u do not have to think. You know it or not, that's it. While a difficult question is a question where u have to logically think about more than one topic and try to figure out the correct answer.
This is only my opinion.

I never said easy was stupid. If I haven't memorized one particular fact, then yes that question will be harder for me than it was for you.

I actually find questions where you have to reason out your answers to be much easier than simple recall. I like being able to work through these sort of problems.

It just comes down to a different definition of easy.

I see. So how can they judge if a question is easy or not? Maybe they check the percentage of right answer on that question?
Again, I do not know how it works, it is just to talk and try to understand

Hahaha I have no clue!! I don't think anyone does. Yeah, there are a lot or quick recall questions that should be very easy, but I dunno how they judge. They maybe look at total number of people who got that question right?

I think what would make sense is to correlate the percentage of correct answers to a question with the score of the people who answer this question correctly/incorrectly. If - lets say - 30% answer a question correctly and the majority of people who do so are people who achieve higher scores, this question correlates positively with the score and does have discriminatory power (I hope it is the right word- I had to google the translation from my native language ). If a question has 25% correct answers but the amount of people who answer correctly are distributed over all score ranges, it is most likely that everybody had to guess and the ability to answer this question correctly does not discriminate between e.g. a well and not so well-prepared student.

It could be! And what about that questions are weight and do not value 1 point each? In nbme questions are not weight i am sure because one friend and i on an nbme had the same number of wrong questions but different ones and scored the same.
The principle is the same: how can they weight questions?
We said that around 10% are experimental qsts ok? so 322-30=292 so 292 is actually the maximum that u can reach in the exam. Is it so?

oh noo!! that sucks. Means more likely in January . 25th December is our 4th Wednesday after exam. We should get it this coming week. Why is it only Wednesdays they can just release it on any day, 26th is even fine if not 25th (which i am pretty sure is not the result day, its Christmas). It is frustrating

Don't get all crazy... that link disappearing this isn't fully accurate. A friend of mine had his link vanish last week, so he thought his results were coming last Wed., but they didn't.

There's a really slim chance of getting the scores this Wed. It's a national holiday. There's no chance of getting the score the week after Christmas; a quick search thru previous years' results threads shows that nobody got their scores on the 26th.

New Year's Day is also a holiday, so my expectation is that we get our results on Jan. 8th. That's when I'm prepared to get the results.

Maybe if we all ask Santa really nicely, we'll get our scores on Christmas.

Was everyone extra good this year??

I have to pass on that one. Anybody else?

Well, basically everyone of us shouldn't have done so badly in the last months...we did not have time to sin. We were at home, locked in a small room with bread and water, gaining knowledge to cure diseases and to help sick people. If that doesn't come with a big fat bonus on Santa's list, nothing does.

Everyone takes step 1 in different circumstances, some people have lots of people to support them, to cook for them, to provide them money, some dont even work and just stay home and study,
while there are some who are in med school, or who are working, and there are some who get depressed during the prep, everyone's life is diff,, what to do, but taking this exam is an achievement in itself !!
, .. whatever score you have just accept it and look forward, just dont repent on anything you did during your prep, whatever happened, happened !! even mine isn't so great, but im a bit contented now.. lets just work really hard in CK !!

hi
i took nbme 12 3 months before exam, it was 221,
then nbme 7 1.5 months before , that was 245
uwsa1: 247
uwsa2: 253
I'm doing Mph and 5day/week job as research assistant too, maybe that's the reason of 242, i tried my best to give my best shot, but its hard with all this plus household work and living all alone,..
yesterday i felt bad about the score as 250 something shud've come, but when i thought of all circumstances in which i took my exam then i got satisfied, and plus its not that bad. i donno whether i shud write my exam experience or not, always wanted to write one and guide ppl, but there are some big shots too who can guide better.. Good day friends

My opinion is that these "experiences" are useless anyway. Everybody starts with a different amount of knowledge, a different time schedule and different abilities how much he is able to study, how much time he has etc...Which books and question banks are useful is widely known and that the NBMEs are useful. Based on that one has to study until he is happy with his NBME prediction and feels comfortable going into exam. Period. Nothing else matters.

naa i dnt agree, we shud tell others what mistakes we made during our prep, so that other shud nt repeat them, there is one person who prepared me for this exam, he has less than 220 in step 1, but see i have 242, because i didnt repeat the mistakes which he made...
experiences do matter..

Experiences do matter. He who doesn't like them shd not read them and shd not discourage people from reading.

I didn't want to discourage anybody to read anything. It is just my opinion that I think the experiences are not useful because everybody is different.
Abeer, yes, it could be because you carefully read the experience, it could also be because you had a different pre-knowledge, have a better predisposition to keeping the stuff in your head or whatsoever.
But again, just my opinion.

there are so many who have no one to guide them, for such ppl, experiences are very useful, i mean, no one follows each and everything the other person writes, but almost everyone gets some idea from other person's experience.. like i got..

Not only do we get the directions with others experiences but also the questions others raise and discussions that come up are million dollars gifts! They help u to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

yess,. i met one of the best person in this forum via experience , its SmashingDude, maybe most of us know him, he is an amazing person, he guided me and motivated me so much i cant explain, i was well prepared for step 1, but had 0% confidence on myself, and believe me or not, he is the one who wrote me so motivated msgs here on this forum, i kept them in my FA and used to get motivated.. i found that guy only via step one experience,
will copy paste his msgs in my experience post, coz i know they will motivate many others like me.
i donno about others, but my step 1 experience will help others for sure, coz i made some mistakes which no one should repeat, and i can tell everyone about them only via writing step 1 ' experience'
