Heart Fibrin & platelets in bacterial endocarditis?

I'm a bit confused.

There were 2 Qs in UWorld. One of them meant that the vegetations in Acute bacterial endocarditis caused by S aureus has valvular vegetations made of platelets & fibrin (which I expected to be inflammatory deposit containing bacteria since they embolize to form septic lesions) while another question mentioned that SABE due to S viridans is caused when platelet & fibrin attach to damaged valves and the bacteria bind to them through their ability to form extracellular polysaccharides.

Is there any relation as both cases contain fibrin & platelets but in different context? Or am I missing the point?
