5.5 months? I can't wait to read your experience.
How far from your exams were your nbmes?

Show Teeth 255 last results of 2013..

255 score report on a TUESDAY

First of all I would like to thank god for putting me on a safe side with the step 1. Then would like to thank the love of my like, my girlfriend, who has sacrificed a lot for me to go through this…my mom, my dad and my family without who this wouldn’t have been possible.
Experience:
I started off studying around june 24th 2013. I took up the most horrible subjects first which were biochemistry and microbiology. Read 50 pages daily from Kaplan notes along with around 3 hours of the videos. In this way completed the subjects in around 15 days. Then did first aid of the same above subjects and made sure I understood all what was written in FA. Then took up cell biology, genetics and biostatistics which were pure nightmare. Took long time to finish this around a month all from Kaplan books + videos. Again went to and fro to the FA and made annotations into it from the videos and KLN videos. Then I started all of the subjects system wise as it is mentioned in the first aid (for eg did anat, phys, path and pharm of cardio from KLN notes and videos followed by FA) each system taking me around a week. Some systems like endocrine, renal didn’t take time as it was my strong field. This way I was done with 1 thorough read.
Then subscribed to UW for 3 months, Kaplan q bank for 1 month. Started doing UW with almost 186 qs per day which took me 10 hours daily after which I was exhausted.. made annotations in fa and finished it in around 15 days. Took NBMEs 5 and 6 before starting Kaplan q bank. Then started off with Kaplan q bank which I did random timed blocks with again 200 questions per day.
UW 1st pass: 77% and quick second pass: 88%
Kaplan q bank: 83%
Once I was done with the questions time came in for all the assessments..
Every Tuesday was reserved for NBME going in the following order 15,13,12,11,7.
Scores of NBMEs:
Nbme 5(10 weeks out)- 240
Nbme 6 (9 weeks out)- 242
Nbme 15 (6 weeks out)- 247
Nbme 13 (5 weeks out)- 247
Nbme 12 (4 weeks out)- 254
Nbme 11 (3 weeks out)- 257
Nbme 7 (10 days out)- 250
Took UWSA1 and UWSA2.
Uwsa 1(5 days out)- 265+...86% right
Uwsa 2 (3 days out)- 265+..89% right.
As I was aiming for a 250+ I felt comfortable to appear for the exam. I would say make realistic goals which solely depends on your own capabilities and work for it you will surely reach there.
I know the path towards step 1 is the most difficult but STEP 1 is hard but definitely DOABLE.
I hope my experience will guide my colleagues towards wonders!
Any queries feel free to ask…
Lastly congrats to all who have passed the biggest exam a medical student can ever take…

Congratulations!

Where did you go to medical school?

To do 50 pages a day with Kaplan must mean your basics must be solid prior preparing!

FA I did it 1ce during kapkan notes..nd 1ce during u world. Then after kaplan q bank I started off with nbmes 1ce every week..so the time gap from 1 nbme to the other I would mak sure I did 1 whole read of fa following dit schedule only not videos and revise u world via random blocks..so in this way u can say 5 to 6 tymes..nd im happy to say still around 75 to 80 percent of questions in real exam is still got from fa...

I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT PEOPLE SHOULD FOLLOW DIT SCHEDULE TO COMPLETE FA AS IT MAKES U SWING FROM 1 TOPIC TO ANOTHER RELATING EACH OF THEM. makes fa interesting this way..

My exam was mostly patho followed by micro and then pharma..
Micro will be easy if u know wats der in FA insyd out..for path I used goljan since my 2nd year coz literally I was, I am and ill always b in love wid it. Saw some pathoma videos only at 1.5 speed just too see if hes talkin anything extra but his talk is appreciable but lacks some details..

Pharma will b either a piece of cak or itll be impossible to answer in that state of mind n frame of tym.. for me 80 percent was easy n 20 was horrible. Esp the kinetic n dynamic

Anat was my weakest but hardly had 10 to 15 questions thru out

Biochem was my strongest so loved doin them still had lik 12 to 15 questions thru out.

Biostats I had lik 2 to 3 questions each block but it was my scoring part as I got a star on the report.. ethics was easy!! Didnt expect though..

Physio had quite a lot with 8 to 10 arrows in all the directions mostly..but I guess figured thm out..had loads of endocrine n acid base imbalances..

Neuro again my strongest of all so literally dint spend more than 40 seconds on each question. Had all together say 15 to 20 questions of which 90 percent were spot the area of damage on gross specimen following the case history

All together it wasnt bad had time issues only in 1 block rest had 10 to 12 mins to spare on each block..no long questions n most similar to nbme 12..

I see. What if time is not on my side, would FA plus uworld be enough or must have time for Kaplan biochem. I read it once 9 months ago. I have forgotten everything in it.

DIT imo wont suit every1s studying style.. i loved it but im not sure if others would like it too.. but if u like the way he gives u the cheat sheet then i would guarantee that ur score will definitely shoot up and u wont regret it..

if u are doing uw for the first time then i would say its ok..but if its the second or 3rd tym then 3 blocks is wat i prefer...
watever suits u will reward u the best... i found doing 2 blox was helpful fr me..
