Hello ppl, my exam is inshallah after 2-3 weeks. Havent decided on a date yet :P Till now I have done kaplan 2 reads and goljan 2 reads, 1 read FA and then did kaplan qbank and scored between 68-72%. Next i gave NBME 13 which was 530(228). I then did FA again and started with uworld and ended up with cummulative of 74%. Next i did FA again and did uworld second time and ended up with 90%. I then did free 150 and scored 86%.

Hi,
I am hoping to take step 1 by end of Jan. I have gone through the Kaplan notes once, UWorld and FA once. gave NBME 7 and got 200 and 245 in UWSA2. I am low on confidence to take the exam by end of Jan but would like push towards that date. my weak areas Behavior Science, Neuro, Musc. Any ideas on how to improve in these areas?

Regards,
Sandy

i did nbme 12 online immediately after i was done with UW and score came out to be 233...
i have been studying kaplan bioche, b.s and genetics since then... as they were the most deficient subjects,,, took nbme 5 offline and the score is still the same...
got almost one month and em unsure whether to start doing UW once again or justt focus on books....
how much did u improve after doing UW the second time?

NBME 13 was done in the middle of my second round. and I did 7 right after I finished it second time. Well, do another one to see where you at..or have you exhausted all your NBMEsÉ I dont know if I should bother with form 6 or USWA2 at this point. I postponed my exam which was originally scheduled for Dec 30th; I was burned out, needed a break. now my folks are nagging me to get step1 done ASAP. They think Ive peaked and it aint gonna be any better than my current nbme score.

well, in my opinion you are doing really great...
hopefully you will master it... i guess u should keep on revising FA and UW notes to keep the score and hopefully u will improve it on exam day...
i had my exam scheduled on 15 Jan but postponed it to Feb becz score wasnt improvng and i wanna score 240+... now my folks are saying the same that i should go for it.... but i just dont wanna settle for 230...

What sort of mistakes are you making? I know why my NBME 13 score took a major dip; i was rushing through it, didnt even bother check the answers after I completed the blocks. There were quite a few mistakes made because I wasnt reading the stem properly or the answer choices. so for 7, I took my time and the score went back up to my baseline. But for me, on every NBME, there were the wtf questions. I couldnt find the ans in either UWorld or FA. Which NBME have you done so far? I find 15 a little different from the rest; 13 may be the easiest if you know FA well. Just my 2cents.

most of the questions i get wrong are due to memory deficit... the thing is written there in FA and Kaplan( the two sources that i used) but i just dont remember it.... manyyy a times i get confused between two options and in doing so, usually get the wrong one...!!
i have no idea what to do about it...
so far i hav done NBME 3, 13, and 5.... only did 13 online, the rest of two offline....
what should i do????

going through only wrong ones in kaplan qbank is enuf i think at this stage usmle rx takes more time ( i don't want to annotate anything into fa )
daily 4 blocks in the morning to make myself get accustomed with exam conditions yes it can be done in 10 days
4 blocks in morning + 2 hrs for review evening first aid 4 hrs + 2hrs uworld notes done for the day though it seems tough can be acheiveble for 250

Well u are not alone. It's not surprising becos most of the stuff u are getting wrong are already in FA. But man, uworld is a must even if u know FA very well.
I would advice that just read FA system wise and do uworld initially system wise but all subjects. So that as and wen u complete a system u add another system and then move on. Ur average would go higher. Don't be depressed.

I hv not done uwsa yet. It's quite predictive except that it over predicts in most cases 10-15 points higher. Nbme is golden in terms of score prediction.

Default U-world 65, need help!

Hey everyone I am about to finish my first u-world round and my cumulative is nearly 65% (All Timed, Random) . Starting my 2nd round from tom. I did FA twice before doing u-world plus 2 kaplan reads+2 Goljan reads. I plan to take the test in feb and aiming for 250+ Quite hurt by my u-world scores honestly. Need sincere advice on how to do good. Planning to take UWSA-1 after 2 weeks of intense study after which i will decide my date.
Any advice will be appreciated.
Good luck everyone!!

Thank you!! Yes, I believe so. I am going to revise my FA thoroughly and work on weaker areas and take my UWSA and then assess myself.

My exam is exactly a week away; did UWSA2 yesterday, the mark was about the same as my UWSA1. At this point, I just want this to be over, I dont care anymore. I am sick and tired of studying for this exam. I think i am forgetting more than I can retain. I hope I do either extremely well or fail miserably, so I wont get into predicament later deciding whether to continue this USMLE adveture or not. For everybody else, good luck. Dont get burn out like me!

Hey, don't worry, if you studied well you do fine in the exam. How did you score on the NBMEs, so you have a rough estimate where you stand. Where are you from... your name sounds so "european "

I posted my NBME marks on one of the earlier post, scroll up, you will see. NBME sit around 240, UWSA250, I am little freaked out because some post individual fail to make to the passing grade with NBME 230s, and there were a couple of posters who dropped up to 15-20 pts below their NBME marks. and my nbme score made no improvement in the course of last 45 days. so I shouldve just gotten this exam done on the 30th of last month....instead I postponed it and had to endure another three weeks of bloody misery! nowadays I find it really hard to sit still and read. I think a few posters here were right, this exam prep if you are doing it full time, shouldn't drag on for 6 months or longer. Its really draining, my skin is break out left and right and I get insomnia.

Then do another one and see where you stand, that is my recommendation. The more NBMEs you do the more predictable your score will be and it is likely you may encounter some questions on the real thing from previous NBMEs.
I am currently doing pathoma... should I bother to read goljan 4th edition?

hey...dont think like that... I can understand ur situation... i went thru exactly the same...and delayed exam 1 month.... main thing is what you do on theexam day.... even if one scores 250 on NBME and doesnt appear on exam day,,,of course they are not gonna make it... dont think like that... i am sorry that something unfortumnate happened with those ppl but just stay positive... good things happen with a whole lot of ppl as well...!!!

You should go on and take this exam feeling really confident.

whatever frustration u are going through is felt by evryone at some point of time ....
its up to u to decide whether to go for it or not .....
dude take a break instead when u feel burned out .....
getting 250 + consistently doesnt mean you are not improving you are at your max..... u just need to plan on improving rather than getting feeling down by someones post every exam is different no worries stay calm you will get 250 in ur exam

you got to do more NBME, no point in delaying, the longer you wait, the more likely you will postpone your exam again. agree with curacao wholeheartedly. I think Goljans audio helps somewhat, even though its ancient. There were three or four questions on form15, that were straight from his audio.

i listened to the audio like 11 months ago... have its transcript,,, and annotated my kaplan with what was new....
i plan to go thru FA once and then will do some UW revision and if i feel like will go for an NBME...
previously i did form 12... ppl say that its no use doing NBME if u already have decided exam date and dont plan to delay exam...!!

Default Just took the exam

Hey guys
I guess I'm the first one to get done with the exam.
So just gave it and here are my thoughts:

It's doable.
Time management was a little problem only because the physio questions with arrows and graphs take a longer time to interpret.
So do the bacterial genetics and the other lab tests ones.
Biostats- some were simple others had a weird language.
Unfortunately I didn't get time to review all my marked ones.
Patho slides were doable with the case. Micro and pharma were straight forward.
My last block didn't go well as I wanted too, as I started doubting the answers I marked and I had to guess in few questions.

Please pray I get a good score.

Default Also took the exam... (Adding to Aishan)

Hi all,

I took it two days ago as well and have similar thoughts.
I also agree that the exam is doable and for someone who has managed to go through all of u world or a review book, there's a very small percentage of things that were never seen before.
For me, I think a key to this is to make sure during your practice exams, you move through questions at a solid pace, not over thinking anything and just continuing through the blocks. From thinking too much, it can take a lot from you especially for so many hours at a time.
It seemed like all the concepts are pretty much the same as what you would expect, but these new exams have very few (if any) buzzwords that were used to. And yes.. the question steps are entirely too long for the majority of every block - I guess, trying to be more like step 2. But if you know your diseases and path, its easy to know what disorder they are talking about.
The one things that keeps changing is simply how they present the answer choices. They all are pretty much the same choices we've seen for similar questions, but worded in a different manner, sometimes just written weirdly. So for me, I felt more comfortable for every question just making sure I flew through the lengthy vignette and crossed out the choices I knew didn't relate to the question.
Overall, a challenging yet manageable exam, if you go about it the right way.

Overall, a challenging yet manageable exam, if you go about it the right way.
hey thnx for shraing the xperience..plz tell whn did u start taking nbmes?
also for the long ques did u skim through them nd read the last line 1st or did u read the whole ques nd then went on to ans?

Give another nbme when u are not sleeping and then schedule immediately if u are ok with such mark.

Took my exam on jan 15th as well. Exam experience was good now I hope result is just as good, lol. I'd post my prep details only after my result but about the actual exam, it was doable especially if you have practiced uworld nicely. It was actually a bit easier than uworld qbank or uwsa. You had ample time to solve blocks if you could do them with uworld timed block practice. Keep a variety of foods and medicines like pain killers or anti nausea drug since it's normal to feel sick on exam day but when it actually starts you'd be all fine. And you don't know what you'd feel like eating during breaks so keep many options. Also lockers were pretty far from exam room so I'd suggest not to waste time in trying to read from fa during the exam. Conserve energy, do not overthink. Take breaks to eat or a 5 min walk in fresh air outside. Commend yourself for every block attempted and do not wonder about previous questions. And remember you wouldn't know answer to every question so cut yourself some slack if you come across such a weird question. Best of luck

Another thing I'd recommend is to tick an answer after you have spent 2-3 mins on it already and just mark it. At the end of block if you get time just quickly review and decide on the marked questions so that even if you run out of time in the end you already had ticked one answer and not left the block incomplete.

I was a little all over the place with my NBME's and scores, in that I didn't have any great trend or stability. A month before I took UWSA1 and 2 and Kaplan full sim 1. Did well on those, so took 2 nbmes (11,13) last week of december. Those dropped my scores by like 20 points. Then I took NBME's 12 and 15 on the 11th and 14th of Jan (2 days before my exam on the 16th). And I did much better on those, so I just decided to sit for it haha...

If you're not a great reader, I'd try and get good with reading quicker and skimming for information. I ended up reading everything just to make sure I didn't miss any important information, but they pretty much followed cases which I had been expecting from Uworld and Kaplan questions. So I just skimmed all of it, noticed if there was anything different or important, chose the best answer and moved on. I wouldn't say there's enough time in this exam (if the're keeping the stems long) to risk reading it, not getting all the info and trying to go back and find something. Just too many words!!!

Hi,
My exam is on 20 feb....
I did u world after reading kaplan was getting about 74 to78 percent
This was about three months back
Now i have read fa twice .....i have completed u world again with avg of 94
I have given nbme 12 gt 250 .....on dec 29...started with u world again and completed one read of fa
Uwsa 1 265 on 14 jan half way thru u world with nearly a second read of fa
I am just too afraid to give another nbme
I gave another nbme ....7.... But i was asleep thru it so scored low.....238 on jan 6
Should i give another nbme or go n give the test...a low score will kill me
Also do i need to read kaplan now.....i had done it twice before and had made some notes in fa ...mostly of microbio and pharma......

Really?
Very impressive. U got to be confident and take another nbme at least 15 but add 13 to be very sure of ur score. one nbme is not safe. what ever it says if u like it then I advice u go hit the exams. U may not have to wait till 20th.
