This is what you should do. Send in all forms so that everything is ready to go. Study your ass off and when you have gone over all of Kaplan from start to finish with the videos and also pathoma/goljan for path, you are ready to apply for your 3 month eligibility period. Use the 3 months to go over Uworld and fa and any other detailed review sources like high yield for your weak areas. You should plan on taking your exam in the last 2 weeks of your eligibility period. Make it a do or die situation. Yes you can extend your period but in my opinion if you keep extending your score will drop. Just make sure you get everything done within those 3 months no matter what. Only and I mean ONLY extend if your Nbme is below your expected score. But to be honest if your score is 240+ you should go ahead and take it.

Yes we all want a 260 but in reality very few people have the intelligence and/or dedication to get to that level. Yes even people like me of average intelligence can get it but we need extreme dedication and chances are if you extend you may end up forgetting more stuff and hurt your score. At 240+ each hour spent studying does much less for you cause you have all the core concepts mastered. Now you need to memorize the minute details. Just my opinion. If you feel you have the dedication and you REALLY need a 260 then go for it but remember to go over all the other topics so you don't forget stuff. Anyways, my advice is take it when ready but don't keep procrastinating. No one feels 100% ready, there is always more we could study, but you need to have a cut off point at some point. <br />
Best of luck to you

Just know that u send the forms after u have applied and chosen your 3 months eligibility period. U cannot send the forms if u have not applied and chosen ur three months. So gauge and take the three months u think u would be ready depending on the volume of material u want to learn and the time dedicated u are ready to offer.

It takes about 3 weeks to a month to get your application through for the first time applicants at which point u would have ur permit ready. So that would be end of may if u apply end of april. But it depends on how busy ur prometric centre u is. Some are so busy that u have to book ur exams date 3 months ahead others too u can book and get date within a week. So find out all that. If u have done Kaplan once and Goljan twice then u are a guru in usmle knowledge already. Just make sure u hit the questions and FA. The farthest u shd go is 3 months after u have done ur primary source of reading else u would forget the details and that affects scores big time.
