Default Kaplan course advice needed

Hi

Did anyone take the live lectures or the classroom anywhere (live online) courses with kaplan for step 1?

If you have please let me know how the course was.. am debating between the live lectures or the live online course.

Thanks in advance. Your advice is very valuable to me.

I took the live lectures at NYC last October-November/13.
they were AWESOME. i think you have to go to the big cities in order to get the "Kaplan Stars" which are Barone, Moscatello, Davis, Fischer, etc (cause some said that in cities not so big like Newark, etc they didnt get Barone or Moscatello and where disappointed)
i do not regret taking them at all, you make friends, you exchange information and resources and you talk to kaplan medical advisors (which are so friendly and love helping you) about what do to next.
The hard thing is to review before each lecture, sometimes you get home too tired because its an intense program and its difficult, but the doctors there SURE make stick all the high yield stuff to your brain.
also i recommend that before going to the lectures its better to go having read KLN once, and ALSO if you had questions while reading the materials write them down to remember and ask the doctors, that is something that i would have liked to do because now doing my 2nd read i find so many questions ive made on the margins that i would have like them to answer me.

good luck!!

Hey there! I also took the live lectures for 7 weeks and center prep in NYC from july to november and I highly recommend it! Its worth all the money. The lectures were great and the whole vibe with all the students there was amazing. We were lucky enough to have Dr. Barone, Fischer, Moscatello and also Dr. Turco teaching us. All of them were super motivating and fun and they really teach the highest yield material. The interaction with the doctors is what makes the difference. Other than that I saw some sample lectures on Classroom anywhere and its basicly a live class with a teacher online. But I guess its more difficult for the teachers to write notes and just follow the crowd and interactions and also students questions etc.

Default Thank you

Thank you drpisho and riiva for your encouraging replies. I really appreciate it. Have you taken the exam yet? How are your nbme's if i may ask? I am an anverage student and i am in my 1st reading of kaplan lecture notes, an i am doing qbank simultaneously. Do the professors make sure your questions are answered? Do they just go on teaching or stop for questions?
I am planning to take them in Washington DC

Thank you soo much!

Correct Answer

You are welcome vnagubandi, feel free to ask
like riiva said, its definitely that vibe that makes it different and a unique experience.
the doctors ANSWER any question you have got, they even give their personal emails for you to ask them stuff (i have asked Dr.Moscatello twice already and she replied back!! ) and of course to give them feedback after the test whether the material covered was part of the test.
they lecture for an hour or so and then 10minute break in which you can approach the doctor and ask all your questions. i loved the lectures because you learn while having fun.
Right now im doing Qbank mixed mode while reviewing the material, using it as a learning tool and to pace myself with questions. i havent done any NBMEs yet,

im not sure whether to take it before Uworld to see where i stand or do it after uworld approaching the test date.. any suggestions?

Thumbs Up

Thank you drpisho for elaborating the strcture of the class. Regd. the nbme's if possible i would strongly recommend taking one before uworld and obviously taking before the actual test.

This way it you can identify your strong points and weak points and concentrate on learning them on uworld and practicing them. Ex.if your weak point is pharma then do more pharma questions and read up pharma you know. nbme's are a decent predictor of the test scores but please please that is not important, the important thing about nbme's is that they are diagnostic tool and use them to rectify weaker areas and not just for the scores.

Hey vnagubandi! Just to answer your questions, yes the students have a chance to ask questions while the doctor is explaining something in case somethings not clear and than also after every hour during the break you can talk to the doctor too, just like drpisho mentioned.
As for me I got passed the reviewing period in december and I was doing kaplan qbank along the way. Now Im just doing uworld and as much questions as possible. I have issues with forgetting stuff but im hoping that at least the high yield material will stick. Oh and I haven't taken any nbmes but planning to take one this week.
